Billy Murphy (fashion Entrepreneur)
William Paul Murphy (7 July 1940 – 19 December 2014), was an Irish-born British fashion entrepreneur, best known for being the founder of ''The Emperor of Wyoming'' in London's King's Road, which sparked a boom in "vintage Americana". William Paul Murphy was born on 7 July 1940 in Cork, Ireland. His father, a hotelier, died when he was young, and his mother then ran a pub in Cork and brought up Billy and his four siblings. In 1972, Murphy founded ''The Emperor of Wyoming'', a shop on London's King's Road (named after the opening track on Neil Young's 1968 debut solo album), that sold vintage clothes imported from the US, with a cowboy and Western theme. King's Road
King's Road or Kings Road (or sometimes the King's Road, especially when it was the king's private road until 1830, or as a colloquialism by middle/upper class London residents), is a major street stretching through Chelsea, London, Chelsea and Fulham, both in west London. It is associated with 1960s in fashion, 1960s style and with fashion figures such as Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood. Sir Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists, Blackshirt movement had a barracks on the street in the 1930s. Cork (city)
Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000. Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and others. ''Neil Young'' is the debut studio album by Canadian / American musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records, catalogue number RS 6317. The album was first released on November 12th 1968 in the so-called 'CSG mix'. It was then partially remixed and re-released in late summer 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200. Release history The first release of the album used the Haeco-CSG encoding system. This technology was intended to make stereo records compatible with mono record players, but had the unfortunate side effect of degrading the sound. Young was unhappy with the first release. "The first mix was awful", he was reported as saying in Cash Box of September 6, 1969. "I was trying to bury my voice, because I didn't like the way it sounded".
