Billy Minter
William James Minter (16 April 1888 – 21 May 1940), was a player, trainer, manager and assistant secretary at Tottenham Hotspur. He scored 101 goals for Tottenham, and was for a time the top scorer for the club. He also managed the club for three years, and after he resigned as manager he stayed at the club until his death in 1940. Personal life Minter was born in Woolwich in 1888. In 1908, he married Elizabeth Eliza Whybrow at St. Thomas Church. Playing career Minter started his playing career as an amateur at Norwich City, and then at Woolwich Arsenal in 1905 for three months playing largely in the reserve team. He then joined Reading before moving to Spurs in March 1908. His first goal for the club came on his debut against Millwall. Spurs was elected to the Football League Second Division in 1908. The 1919– 20 season was the 28th season of The Football League, and the first season after football was suspended after outbreak of World War I Compared to 1914–15, the number of Football League member clubs increased from 40 to 44, initially with five new clubs. Team changes Resuming after four years, the Football League expanded its numbers by four, maintaining competition in two Divisions of equal size. During previous such expansions, 1898 and 1905, the relegated clubs from the previous season were re-elected, while the top Second Division sides were promoted as usual. Following that precedent, the two top Second Division sides in 1915, Derby and Preston did move on up. Chelsea, who had finished 19th that First Division season, were, as expected, re-elected. Percy Smith (English Footballer)
Percy James Smith (1880–1959) was an English footballer and football manager, who played for Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers. Playing career He started his playing career with Hinckley Town before joining Preston in 1902. He quickly achieved success, helping Preston to the Second Division title in 1904, becoming the division's top scorer in the process with 26 goals, and to the runners-up position in the Football League in 1906. After eight seasons at Preston, he moved to local rivals Blackburn Rovers in 1910, where he again achieved success claiming the League title in 1912 and again in 1914, as well as reaching the FA Cup Semi-finals in 1911 and 1912. After World War I, he finished his playing career with brief spells at Fleetwood and Barrow.
