Billy McCarthy
Billy McCarthy is an Irish hurler who plays as a forward for the Tipperary senior team. He plays his club hurling with Thurles Sarsfields. Career McCarthy made his senior debut for the Tipperary hurling team on 17 February 2018 in the third round of the 2018 National Hurling League against Wexford when he came on as a substitute in the second half and scored a point. McCarthy made his Championship debut for the Tipperary on 20 May 2018 in the first round of the 2018 Munster Senior Hurling Championship against Limerick in a 1–23 to 2–14 defeat. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. Tipperary Senior Hurling Team Season 2018
The 2018 season was Michael Ryan's third and final year as manager of the Tipperary senior hurling team. On 26 September 2017, it was confirmed that Michael Ryan would continue as Tipperary manager on a new three-year term alongside coach Declan Fanning and selectors John Madden and Conor Stakelum. Brian Horgan left his position as a selector. Intersport/Elverys continued as sponsors of Tipperary GAA for a fourth year with the same kit as used in 2017. 2018 National Hurling League
The 2018 National Hurling League was the 87th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. Wexford finished top of Division 1B in 2017 and were promoted to Division 1A for 2018. Galway finished second in Division 1B in 2017 and so missed out on promotion, even though they subsequently won the Division 1 league final. Cavan re-entered the National Hurling League in Division 3B, having previously withdrawn. Lancashire also entered in Division 3B for the first time. Eir Sport and TG4 provided live TV coverage of the league on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons respectively. The 2018 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 131st staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. It is the first tier of senior inter-county championship hurling. The championship began on 12 May 2018 and ended on 19 August 2018. 2020 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 2020 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 130th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. The draw for the group stage placings took place on 27 January 2020. The championship was scheduled to begin in April 2020, however, it was postponed indefinitely due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Gaelic games. The championship eventually began on 25 July and ended on 20 September 2020. Borris–Ileigh were the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Drom & Inch in a penalty shoot-out at the quarter-final stage. Burgess were relegated after a 1–17 to 0–16 defeat by Éire Óg Annacarty in a playoff.
