Willard Palmer Harris (October 28, 1916 – August 21, 1973) was an American jazz trombonist. Biography Harris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Early in his career, Harris performed with Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, and Eddie Condon. He is remembered for his broad, thick tone and quick vibrato, that remained for the duration of each tone. He joined Woody Herman's First Herd in 1944. He was also in the Four Brothers Second Herd during the late 1940s, and he worked with Herman again in the 1950s. He then teamed up with Charlie Ventura and later with Chubby Jackson. Together with Flip Phillips, he became a stalwart of Benny Goodman's group in 1959, although it has been said that Goodman was frequently irritated at Harris because of Harris' indifferent approach to "sight-reading," the skill of playing previously unseen written music with fluency, an ability which Goodman and trumpeter Harry James both possessed. Professor Bill Harris (17 November 1944 – 2 June 2014) was a genetic scientist who specialised in antibody research. An author of about 70 scientific research papers, author, editor, and contributor to many books, and 15 patent applications, Bill was most notable for his work translating science from the lab in to industry. His recent academic research centred on engineering of antibodies for application in health care, management of environmental pollution, and the derivation and use of novel combinatorial libraries. In early 2015, Bill was celebrated as a pioneering bio-entrepreneur by the University of Aberdeen during a two-day symposium at the Institute of Medical sciences. Bill lived in Carnoustie, Scotland, known as one of the most challenging golf course in the world where the Open Championship was held in 1999 and 2007. Bill Harris (June 15, 1916 – May 23, 2012) was a United States Army Air Force fighter ace who was credited with shooting down 16 aircraft during World War II. Life William "Bill" Harris was born on June 15, 1916 in Strathmore, California to Albert Asbury Harris and Harriet Barclay Harris. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1936 and served aboard the USS Houston (CA-30). Due to his height, Harris was selected to fly in the back seat of a Curtiss SOC Seagullas a rear gunner and radio operator. In 1940, he was honorably discharged from the Navy. Harris went on to run Harris Bros. Lumber Co. with his brother Mal and former shipmate Bron Barrett in Springville, California. Upon the United States entering World War II, Harris and Barrett enlisted as pilots in the United States Army Air Corps. William Edward Harris (born January 29, 1952) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League who played from 1972 to 1984. He helped the New York Islanders reach the NHL playoff semi-finals four times in five seasons from 1975 to 1979. Playing career As a youth, Harris played in the 1964 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Shopsy's minor ice hockey team. Harris was drafted first overall in the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft by the expansion New York Islanders. He is known for being the first New York Islander. He played on Long Island until he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings on March 10, 1980, along with Dave Lewis for Butch Goring. Playing career Harris began his NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1955–56. He helped Toronto win 3 straight Stanley Cups in 1962, 1963, and 1964. In total, he played 10 seasons with Toronto before being traded in the off season to the Detroit Red Wings along with Andy Bathgate and Gary Jarrett for Larry Jeffrey, Eddie Joyal, Lowell MacDonald, Marcel Pronovost, and Autry Erickson on May 20, 1965. After playing 24 games for Detroit in 1965–66 he was sent down to the Red Wings AHL affiliate Pittsburgh Hornets.
