Billy Davis (songwriter)
Roquel "Billy" Davis (July 11, 1932 – September 2, 2004), of Detroit, was an American songwriter, record producer, and singer. Davis was also known as a writer/producer of commercial jingles, mostly for Coca-Cola. He was also known as Tyran Carlo on writing credits. Early in his career in Detroit, Davis sang and wrote with an early version of the Four Tops called "The Four Aims", which included his cousin Lawrence Payton. In the late-1950s, he collaborated with Berry Gordy, the Motown Records founder, to write a number of hit songs for Jackie Wilson. The most notable of these was "Lonely Teardrops", written by Davis, Gordy, and Gordy's sister Gwen, who was Davis's girlfriend at the time. Davis and Gwen Gordy later founded Anna Records, which was the distributor of the early singles from Berry Gordy's newly formed Tamla label. The two also wrote "Reet Petite (The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet)" for Wilson, which was a Top 10 hit for the singer in the UK and later topped t ... J.C. Davis (born April 29, 1938), known as Billy Davis, is an American rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, who is best known for his work with Hank Ballard & The Midnighters. Life and career Davis was born in Bentonia, Mississippi and moved to Memphis, Tennessee in childhood. He became inspired to play guitar at the age of 8, when he heard " That's All Right" by Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup. In 1951, at the age of 13, Davis moved to Detroit, Michigan. There he lived in the predominantly black area of the city known as " Black Bottom" and took guitar lessons from Bosie Gatlin, who taught him how to play the Muddy Waters' song " Baby, Please Don't Go". In 1951, Davis met his mother's friend from Mississippi, John Lee Hooker. Hooker in turn introduced Davis and Jackie Wilson, who became close friends and collaborated musically throughout their lives. Billy Davis Jr. (born June 26, 1938) is an American singer and musician, best known as a member of the 5th Dimension. Along with his wife Marilyn McCoo, he had hit records during 1976 and 1977 with "I Hope We Get to Love in Time", " Your Love", and "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)". Davis and McCoo were married in 1969. They became the first African-American married couple to host a network television series, titled ''The Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. Show'', on CBS in the summer of 1977, the year "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)" won a Grammy Award. Bill Davis (born November 5, 1965) is an American football coach who is the linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). A 27-year NFL coach, Davis has coached linebackers for 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns. During his 14 years coaching linebackers, Davis coached outside linebackers for 4 years, inside linebackers for 4 years and the remaining 6 years Davis coached both inside and outside linebackers, having control of the entire unit. Billy Davis (born July 6, 1972 in El Paso, Texas) is a former professional American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. He played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. Early years Davis attended Irvin High School, where he played as a quarterback, defensive back and punter. As a senior, he passed for 1,200 yards, receiving All-district, All-city and All-region honors. William McIntosh Davies (born 31 May 1964) is a Scottish former professional footballer and manager. He won the 2007 Play-offs with Derby County, finished as runners-up in 2005 with Preston North End, and reached the semi-finals in 2006 (Preston), 2010 and 2011 (both with Nottingham Forest). Playing career As a schoolboy, Davies was associated with Manchester United and he was offered a contract by then manager Dave Sexton.
