Billy Cook (footballer, Born 1940)
Billy Cook (26 June 1940 – 2 July 2017) was a footballer who played seven times for the Australia national association football team. Playing career Club career Cook played his youth football for Galston Amateurs and Ardrossan Winton Rovers before signing with Kilmarnock in 1959. He played ten matches for Kilmarnock before moving to Australia to play for Melbourne team Slavia. International career Cook represented Scotland once at under-14 level and twice at under-15 level. While playing at Slavia Cook came to the attention of the Australian selectors. Between 1965 and 1967 he played in seven full internationals for Australia, including two against Scotland, his country of birth. He also played for the Victorian state team on several occasions. Personal life Cook died on 2 July 2017, aged 77. Galston, East Ayrshire
Galston ( Lowland Scots: ''Gauston'', Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile nan Gall'') is a municipality in East Ayrshire, Scotland, which has a population of 5,001 (2001) and is at the heart of the civil parish of the same name. It is situated in wooded countryside four miles up-river from Kilmarnock and is one a group of the small towns located in the Irvine Valley between the towns of Hurlford and Newmilns. To the north of the town is the ruin of Loudoun Castle, the site of Loudoun Castle theme park from 1995 to 2010. In 1874 the population was 4,727. Etymology The name Galston means "place of the strangers" from the Gaelic word ''Gall'' (a stranger), and the ''Toun'' or ''Ton'' was a farm and its outbuildings. The National Premier Leagues Victoria, commonly known as NPL Victoria, is a semi-professional soccer league in Victoria, Australia. The league is a part of the National Premier Leagues, and is the highest level within the Victorian soccer league system, serving jointly as the second tier within the overall Australian pyramid. Dockerty Cup
The Dockerty Cup is an annual association football knock-out competition open to all Victorian clubs across the Victorian football league system. The tournament is named after the former president of Football Federation Victoria Harry Dockerty. Since 2014 the Cup is also a qualifying competition for the FFA Cup, now known as the Australia Cup, where the four finalists enter the competition proper at the round of 32. The Dockerty cup winner also qualifies to the next season's FV Community Shield, in a one-off match against the current NPL Victoria champion.
