William W. Chase was a college football player. Chase was a prominent halfback for coach Dutch Stanley's Florida Gators of the University of Florida from 1933 to 1935. Chase was a native of Lakeland. A triple threat back, he was elected captain of the 1935 team. Lakeland Senior High School (Florida)
Lakeland Senior High School is the oldest public high school in Lakeland, Florida, United States. It is part of Polk County Public Schools. Lakeland Senior High School was the original high school in the city. It also shares its campus with Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. Harrison students attend academic classes at Lakeland Senior High School. Athletics The school's athletic teams are known as the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. Lakeland's football team has won eight state championships, in 1986, 1996, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2018 and 2022. The Dreadnaughts have played their home football games at Thomas W. The Florida Gators football program represents the University of Florida (UF) in American college football. A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. The 1933 Florida Gators football team represented the University of Florida during the 1933 college football season. The season was Florida alumnus Dennis K. Stanley's first as the head coach of the Florida Gators football team. Triple-threat Man
In gridiron football, a triple-threat man is a player who excels at all three of the skills of running, passing, and kicking. In modern usage, such a player would be referred to as a utility player. Triple-threat men were the norm in the early days of football, as substitution rules were stringent. Thus, in addition to the need for passing, running, and kicking skills, they were also required to play defense. As injury awareness grew and substitution rules loosened, teams shifted to kicking specialists, which made the triple-threat man obsolete.
