Billy Bancroft
William James Bancroft (2 March 1871 – 3 March 1959) was a Welsh international fullback, who played club rugby for Swansea, and a county cricketer for Glamorgan, for whom he was the first professional player in 1895. Bancroft was seen as one of the first true stars of Welsh rugby and played rugby with extreme self-confidence.Thomas (1979), p. 15. He possessed great speed and was an excellent kicker of the ball,Smith (1980), p. 82. though some critics felt his defensive play was weak. His brother Jack also played rugby for Wales. Club career in rugby Bancroft made his first club appearance for Swansea on 5 October 1889. He would play for Swansea for his entire career and is considered one of the greatest fullbacks to have played for the club. Sam Warburton led Wales in the most matches, captaining them 49 times between 2011 and 2016; Warburton also captained Wales to their most victories with 23. Frank Gordon (rugby Player)
Frank "Genny" Gordon was a Welsh rugby union forward who played club rugby for Swansea Rugby Club. Although never capped for his country he is notable for captaining Swansea over two seasons, including the 1904/05 "invincible" season. Gordon also led Swansea against the first touring New Zealand team in 1906. Rugby career Gordon joined Swansea in 1894, and spent several seasons playing for the "all whites" before succeeding Billy Bancroft as the captain of the first XV. He would captain Swansea over four seasons, when Swansea won the Welsh championship twice, including the 1904/05 "invincible" season when Swansea finished unbeaten by all club opposition. In 1904, with Gordon now into his third season as Swansea captain, he was listed as a replacement centre for the upcoming Wales encounter with Ireland, the final match of the 1904 Home Nations Championship, which happened to be played at Swansea. Albert Jenkin
Albert Mortimer Jenkin (14 September 1872 – 3 July 1961) was an English-born rugby union forward who played club rugby for Swansea, county rugby for Glamorgan and international rugby for Wales. Personal life Jenkin was born in Ibsley, Hampshire in 1872 to the Rev. Albert Jenkin and Elizabeth Seager. Jenkin was educated at Llandovery College before gaining entry to St John's College, Cambridge in 1892. In 1902 he was ordained a deacon at Llandaff Cathedral and the next year he was ordained as an Anglican priest. In 1903 he took a position at St Martin's Church in Roath, Cardiff, but in 1905 he left the position when he joined the Universities' Mission to Central Africa taking a missionary role in Mponda, Nyasaland. He stayed at Mponda until 1911, then joined missions at Zomba and Blantyre until 1916. After the outbreak of World War I he served as an Army chaplain in East Africa, before settling for some time in South Africa, where he became an Archdeacon in Pretoria. He eventua ...
