Billingford, Breckland
Billingford is a village and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England, about north of East Dereham. The village is just north of the River Wensum, which forms the southern boundary of the parish. The village is on the B1145 road, which links King's Lynn and Mundesley. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 253. Billingford is in the Upper Wensum ward of Breckland District Council and the Elmham and Mattishall division of Norfolk County Council. Archaeology West of the village, between Elmham Road and the River Wensum, is the site of a Romano-British settlement. The site is unusual in having evidence that occupation continued into the early Anglo-Saxon period. The site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Artefacts recovered from the site include a gold amulet. Toponym The Domesday Book of 1086 records the toponym as ''Billinge-forda''. An entry for 1212 in the Book of Fees records it as ''Billingeford''. It is derived from Old English and means "th ...

Billingford or Pirleston is a village and former civil parish, south of Norwich, now in the parish of Scole, in the South Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 150. Features Billingford has a church called St Leonard and a pub called The Horseshoes on Lower Street, adjacent to Billingford Windmill. History The name "Billingford" possibly means 'ford at the place called Billing' or 'ford of the Billingas'. Billingford was recorded in the Domesday Book as ''P(re)lestuna''. On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Scole. War Memorial Billingford's War Memorial is located within St. Leonard's Church and takes the form of a marble plaque. Billingford Windmill
Billingford Windmill is a grade II* listed brick tower mill at Billingford near Diss, Norfolk, England which has been preserved and restored to working order. As of June 2009, the mill is under repair, with new sails being made. History A windmill was first marked on William Faden's map of Norfolk published in 1797. This was a post mill which drove two pairs of millstones. The mill was blown down on 22 September 1859. A new tower mill was built for William Chaplyn to replace the post mill. It cost £1,300 and was completed by March 1860. In 1872 the miller, Henry Pike, was sued for supplying meal unfit for consumption. He admitted having added some starch fibre to the meal. Judgement was given in his favour, but with 30 s deducted and no order for costs being granted. William Chaplyn died in 1881 and the mill was put up for sale by auction on 21 June 1881 at the King's Head Hotel, Diss but it remained unsold and was later offered to let.
