She also had a large following in the United Kingdom with two of her singles reaching the pop top ten. Early life and rise to fame Spears was born on January 14, 1938, in Beaumont, Texas to Myrtie (née Smith), a homemaker who worked as a shipyard welder during World War II, and Carl Wilson Moore, a truck driver.''The New York Times''; December 17, 2011 She made her professional debut at age 13 at a country-music concert in Houston, Texas.
