Bill Winter (British Army Officer)
William Arthur Winter DCM (17 September 19134 December 2004) was a British soldier in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) who received the Distinguished Conduct Medal while serving in Burma during the Second World War. Early life Winter was born to Robert Winter and Ethel Arthurene Wilton on 17 September 1913 in Chaubatia, Uttaranchal, India. He married Bettie South (Phyllis Hall) in December 1941 when he was 28, shortly after he was posted to the Far East during the Second World War and did then not see Bettie for over four years until the war ended in 1945. Service Winter joined the Army in 1936, first serving in Malta. During the Second World War Winter experienced his first action in Norway in 1940. Chaubatia
Chaubattia is a settlement in Almora district, in the state of Uttarakhand, northern India. It is located roughly south of the cantonment town of Ranikhet. Chabattia is above sea level, within sight of the western peaks of the Himalayas. Its name,in Kumaoni language, literally means a common meeting point of four paths ("chau" meaning ''four'' and "bat" meaning ''path''). It is named this way because of its location at the intersection of four places connects in front of Rawat Building: Bhargaon, Ranikhet, Dehrti and Pilkholi. Lieutenant (British Army And Royal Marines)
Lieutenant (; Lt) is a junior officer rank in the British Army and Royal Marines. It ranks above second lieutenant and below captain and has a NATO ranking code of OF-1 and it is the senior subaltern rank. Unlike some armed forces which use first lieutenant, the British rank is simply lieutenant, with no ordinal attached. The rank is equivalent to that of a flying officer in the Royal Air Force (RAF). Although formerly considered senior to a Royal Navy (RN) sub-lieutenant, the British Army and Royal Navy ranks of lieutenant and sub-lieutenant are now considered to be of equivalent status. Nigerian Police
The Nigeria Police Force is the principal law enforcement and the lead security agency in Nigeria. Designated by the 1999 constitution as the national police of Nigeria with exclusive jurisdiction throughout the country, as at 2016 it has a staff strength of about 371,800. There are currently plans to increase the force to 650,000, adding 280,000 new recruits to the existing 370,000. The Nigeria Police Force is a very large organisation consisting of 36 State commands and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) grouped into 17 zones and 8 administrative organs. Military Medal
The Military Medal (MM) was a military decoration awarded to personnel of the British Army and other arms of the armed forces, and to personnel of other Commonwealth countries, below commissioned rank, for bravery in battle on land. The award was established in 1916, with retrospective application to 1914, and was awarded to other ranks for "acts of gallantry and devotion to duty under fire". The award was discontinued in 1993, when it was replaced by the Military Cross, which was extended to all ranks, while other Commonwealth nations instituted their own award systems in the post war period. First World War
World War I (28 July 1914 11 November 1918), often abbreviated as WWI, was one of the deadliest global conflicts in history. The Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) was an infantry regiment of the line in the British Army, formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 100th (Prince of Wales's Royal Canadian) Regiment of Foot and the 109th Regiment of Foot (Bombay Infantry). The 100th Foot was first raised in 1858 and the 109th was first raised in 1853. Parish councils are civil local authorities found in England which are the lowest tier of local government. They are elected corporate bodies, with variable tax raising powers, and they carry out beneficial public activities in geographical areas known as civil parishes. There are about 9,000 parish and town councils in England, and over 16 million people live in communities served by them. Parish councils may be known by different styles, they may resolve to call themselves a town council, village council, community council, neighbourhood council, or if the parish has city status, it may call itself a city council.
