Bill Spence (August 12, 1940 - February 7, 2019) was a hammered dulcimer player from New York. Bill Spence (racing Driver)
William Kettley Spence (June 9, 1906 – May 30, 1929) was an American racecar driver. He was killed in the 1929 Indianapolis 500 after making contact with the inside wall in turn 2. This accident was caught on film by the makers of the 1929 silent film ''Speedway'' and the horrific crash can be seen in the last reel. In the captured film, Spence's front right tire hits the inside wall, indicating the car has previously spun. The car then rotates counterclockwise, and the right side appears to hit a rut or indentation in the track, causing the car to flip, landing upside down. Spence suffered a fractured skull. Bill Spence (writer)
William John Duncan Spence (born 20 April 1923) is an English writer. He has written war novels as Duncan Spence, and Westerns as Jim Bowden, Floyd Rogers and Kirk Ford. He has also used the pseudonym Hannah Cooper. His most successful novels have been historical romances written under the name Jessica Blair. Life Spence was born in Middlesbrough in 1923. He worked as a schoolteacher from 1940 to 1943. He saw active service during World War II with Bomber Command. On 1 October 1943, he was commissioned into the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as a pilot officer (on probation). His commission was confirmed and he was promoted to flying officer on 1 April 1944. He was promoted to flight lieutenant (war substantive) on 1 October 1945. He served as a bomber aimer in Avro Lancasters, completing 36 operations. He was a store manager from 1946 to 1977. He currently lives in Ampleforth near York. Billy Spence
Billy Spence (died 1980) was a loyalist activist in Northern Ireland. A native of the Shankill Road area of Belfast, Spence was a leading figure with both Ulster Protestant Action and the Ulster Volunteer Force. Early life Born in Belfast, Spence was the older brother of Gusty, later to become an even more prominent loyalist. He was the son of William Edward Spence, who was born in Whitehaven, England but raised in Belfast, and Isabella Hayes. In 1945, Billy Spence was critical of his younger brother's invitation to Paddy Devlin to play for the Old Lodge soccer team. In keeping with the military tradition of the family, Spence served with the Royal Navy as a young man. He then worked in the Belfast Corporation's transport department as a timekeeper. In this role he served as a member of the Transport and General Workers' Union.
