Bill Serong
Bill Serong (born 5 May 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood and North Melbourne in the VFL. He went to the Christian Brothers' College in Victoria Parade, and was the Australian handball champion in 1974, aged 38. Football Serong usually played as a centreman but was also seen on the half forward flanks. He made his league debut in 1956 with Collingwood and played in their 1958 premiership side as well as two losing grand finals with the club. In 1959 he placed equal second in the Brownlow Medal count. He finished his career with a season at North Melbourne in 1962, winning their best and fairest award. He was captain-coach of Echuca in the 1963 and 1964 Bendigo Football League seasons. Serong won the 1965 - Bendigo FL best and fairest award, the Michelsen Medal. Collingwood Football Club

North Melbourne Football Club
The North Melbourne Football Club, nicknamed the Kangaroos, is a professional Australian rules football club. The men's team competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), and the women's team in the AFL Women's (AFLW). The Kangaroos also field a reserves men's team in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Founded in the suburb of North Melbourne in 1869 and based at the Arden Street Oval, it is the 4th oldest club in the competition and one of the oldest surviving clubs in the world. Australian rules football was one of two demonstration sports at the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) stipulated that each Summer Olympics host must organise both a "national" game and a sport "foreign" to the organising country as "demonstration sports". Australian football was chosen as the national sport, while baseball was chosen as the foreign sport. In accordance with Olympic eligibility rules, participants were restricted to amateurs, which forced organisers to select squads made up of young stars, ageing veterans and suburban-league athletes.
