William Rose (footballer)
William Crisp Rose (1 December 1861 – 2 February 1937) was an English international footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Early and personal life Born in Euston, Middlesex, Rose was the eldest of three sons; their father was a carpenter, a trade which Rose also later practiced. The family later moved to Aston in Birmingham. He married in August 1886; his wife died by the end of the year. He had a second marriage in September 1896, and four children. Career Rose began his career with Small Heath, Swindon Town, Swifts, Swindon Victoria, Corinthian, Preston North End, Warwick County, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Loughborough Town. He won the FA Cup once and was runner-up twice. He earned five caps for England between 1884 and 1891. William Kinnaird Rose (1845–1919), was a Scottish journalist, war correspondent, investigator and editor of the ''Brisbane Courier''. Biography Rose was born in Glasgow in 1845 and educated at Kilmarnock Academy, Ayr Academy and the University of Edinburgh. After graduation Rose acted as special commissioner of the London ''Daily Telegraph'' investigating the condition of Scotch agricultural labourers. During the Russo-Turkish wars of the late 19th century, Rose worked as a correspondent for The Scotsman newspaper, and served on the staff of Russian General Mikhail Skobelev. Sir William Rose, 2nd Baronet, (1 April 1846 – 4 October 1902) was a Scots-Quebecer barrister and heir to the Rose baronetcy, of Montreal upon the death of his father Sir John Rose, 1st Baronet in 1888. William Rose (August 31, 1918 – February 10, 1987) was an American screenwriter of British and Hollywood films. Life and career Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, Rose traveled to Canada after the 1939 outbreak of World War II and volunteered to fight with the Black Watch. After being stationed at bases in Scotland and Europe, he returned to live in Britain at war's end to work as a screenwriter, marrying an English woman, Tania Price, with whom he would later collaborate. William F. Rose (September 16, 1909– May 29, 1972) was an American illustrator and film poster artist active in the 1930s and 1940s. He is recognized as one of the most distinctive poster artists of the Classical Hollywood cinema, Classical Hollywood era, a time when most film posters featured painted illustrations rather than photography. Rose painted dozens of poster illustrations for RKO Pictures, RKO Radio Pictures and other studios. As one of the leading designers in RKO's art department, he helped to define the studio's bold visual aesthetic. Although he was prolific, only a fraction of his poster designs have been individually attributed to him. Most of his output remains unidentified. William Cumming Rose (April 4, 1887 – September 25, 1985) was an American biochemist and nutritionist. He discovered the amino acid threonine, and his research determined the necessity for essential amino acids in diet and the minimum daily requirements of all amino acids for optimal growth. Early life William Cumming Rose was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He attended various local schools, but his father John M. Rose, who was a Presbyterian minister, began to homeschool William in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew when he was 14 years old. He also studied an introductory chemistry textbook by Ira Remsen. Dr William Rose (1719–1786) was a Scottish schoolmaster and classical scholar. Life The eldest son of Hugh Rose of Birse, Aberdeenshire, he was educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen. He later served as usher to the Earl of Dunmore at the Northampton Academy of Philip Doddridge. He then moved to Kew, and in 1758 to Chiswick, where he conducted a successful school until his death, 4 July 1786. Though a dissenter and a Scot, Rose was a friend of Samuel Johnson; but Johnson blamed his leniency on corporal punishment, "for," said he, "what the boys gain at one end they lose at the other." Among Rose's pupils was Charles Burney the younger, who married his daughter Sarah. Among his friends was Bishop Lowth, and his executors were Thomas Cadell and William Strahan, the publishers.
