Bill O'Callaghan
William Henry O’Callaghan (1868 – 16 January 1946) was an Irish hurler who played as a forward for the Cork senior team. Born in Cork, O'Callaghan first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-four when he first linked up with the Cork senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1892 championship. O'Callaghan immediately became a regular member of the team and won one All-Ireland medal and one Munster medal. In 1892 O'Callaghan captained the team to the All-Ireland title. Redmonds GAA
Redmonds is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Cork in County Cork, Ireland. The club is situated in Tower Street, on the southside of the city. The club participates in Cork GAA competitions and in Seandún divisional board competitions. The club no longer fields hurling teams but continues to participate in the Seandun junior C football competitions. History Redmonds GAA have been in the Senior Hurling Championship Finals 10 times from their first finals appearance in 1892 to their last finals appearance in 1927. They won the title five times in 1892, 1900, 1901, 1915 and 1917. In the early years of the Gaelic Athletic Association clubs represented their county in the All-Ireland championships. Stephen Hayes (hurler)
Stephen Hayes (1860 – 15 September 1929) was an Irish hurler. He played with club side Blackrock and at inter-county level with Cork. Hayes captained Cork to a third All-Ireland victory in-a-row in 1894. Career Hayes had his first hurling success when the Blackrock Nationals club won the inaugural Cork County Hurling Championship in 1887. It was the first of five such victories in seven seasons, with Hayes captaining the team in 1891 and 1894. Hayes first played for Cork when he captained the team for the 1899 Munster Championship. He captained the team for a second time during Cork's unsuccessful 1891 campaign. Hayes returned for a third stint as captain when Cork beat Tipperary by 3-04 to 1-02 to win the Munster Championshi in 1894. He later captained the team to a 5-20 to 2-00 defeat of Dublin in the 1894 All-Ireland final, in what was a record third successive title for Cork. Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. The county football team was the fourth from the province of Munster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), as well as to appear in the final, following Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. Kerry is the most successful in the history of the All-Ireland SFC, topping the list of counties for All-Irelands won. John Mahony
John Mahony (1 January 1864 – 31 December 1943) was an Republic of Ireland, Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at with his local club Ballyduff GAA Club, Ballyduff and with the Kerry GAA, Kerry senior inter-county team in the 1890s. Mahony captained Kerry to their only All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland hurling title in 1891. Biography John Mahony was born in Kilmore, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ballyduff, County Kerry in 1864. The son of John and Bridget (née Doran), he grew up in an area that was and still is famous for hurling. Like many of his contemporaries Mahony earned his living from fishing and from thatching roofs. He later gained a reputation as a fine sportsman and as an outspoken individual. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1892
The 1892 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the sixth staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 30 October 1892 and ended on 26 March 1893. Kerry were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial series. Cork won the All-Ireland title, after defeating Dublin by 2-3 to 1-5 in the final. Rule changes At the Gaelic Athletic Association's (GAA) annual congress held in Thurles on 13 January 1892, some changes were made to the existing rules of the game. John 'Curtis' Murphy
John 'Curtis' Murphy was an Irish sportsman. He played hurling with his local club Blackrock and with the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1880s and 1890s. Murphy captained Cork to All-Ireland victory in 1893. Playing career Club Murphy played his club hurling with the famous Blackrock club in Cork and enjoyed success. He won his first senior county title in 1887 as ‘the Rockies’ captured the very first Cork county title. Murphy added further county titles to his collection in 1889 and 1891. Blackrock quickly became the standard-bearers in the county and Murphy had further county victories with the famous club in 1893, 1894, 1895, 1897 and 1898.
