William Moss (Australian Politician)
William Lionel Moss CBE (9 October 1891 – 4 June 1971) was an Australian grazier who served as federal president of the Australian Country Party from 1962 to 1968. Moss was born near Numurkah to farmer Frederick George Moss and Isabella, ''née'' Spiers. He attended local state schools and helped on his parents' property before enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force on 1 February 1917. He served in the 12th Army Brigade of the Australian Field Artillery as a gunner on the Western Front, but was badly gassed in October 1918 and returned to Australia; he was discharged from the AIF on 19 February 1919. Returning to Victoria, Moss farmed wheat and wool at Numurkah and joined the Victorian Farmers' Union. In July 1930 he visited Canberra in his capacity as vice-president of the Victorian Wheat Growers' Association as a lobbyist, and joined the Australian Country Party in 1931. Bill Moss (22 May 1931 – 25 June 2007) was an American Gospel music singer. Biography Early life Moss was born in 1931 in Selma, Alabama, and sang in a choir led by his older sister the late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Musical career Bill Moss & The Celestials He moved to Detroit, Michigan and formed The Celestials with his wife Essie Moss. Bill Moss & the Celestials would perform with acts such as The Staple Singers and Mighty Clouds of Joy at venues such as the Apollo Theater in Harlem. The Celestials were one of the first gospel groups to use electric instruments. Their best known songs include "Turn It Over to Jesus", "Everything is Going to be Alright" and "The Way We Use to Have Church." William Moss (4 September 1933 – 13 January 2010) was a British racing driver from England. Moss entered one World Championship Formula One race, the 1959 British Grand Prix, with his United Racing Stable Cooper Car Company, Cooper T51, a Formula 2 car, and failed to qualify. Moss was British F3, British Formula Junior Champion in 1961. He is not related to Stirling Moss, winner of 16 Grands Prix.
