Bill Middlekauff
Willis William Middlekauff (December 28, 1904 – September 1957) was an American college football player, attorney, boxer, and wrestler. University of Florida Middlekauff from 1922–25 and in 1927 was a member of the University of Florida swimming, track and boxing teams. He was often called "Big Bill." At UF he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. Football Middlekauff was a prominent fullback for coach James Van Fleet and coach Tom Sebring's Florida Gators football team of the University of Florida from 1923 to 1924, and 1926 to 1927. One accounts recalls he "rams a line and can back one up to perfection." Jeff Moshier called him Florida's greatest fullback. In 1927, the ''Florida Alumnus'', the official organ of the Florida Alumni, agreed. 1923 Florida Gators Football Team
The 1923 Florida Gators football team represented the University of Florida during the 1923 Southern Conference football season. This was Major James Van Fleet's first of two seasons as the head coach of the Florida Gators football team. Van Fleet was a serving officer in the U.S. Army and a professor of military tactics in the university's Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, and had been a standout fullback on the undefeated West Point Cadets team of 1914. The 1927 Georgia Bulldogs football team represented the Georgia Bulldogs of the University of Georgia in the sport of American football during the 1927 Southern Conference football season. This was the last season George Cecil Woodruff served as the head coach of the football team and the team's 34th season of college football. The Bulldogs posted a 9–1 record, and were retroactively selected as the 1927 national champion under the Berryman QPRS, Boand, and Poling systems. The team was ranked No. 8 in the nation in the Dickinson System ratings released in December 1927. The 1927 NC State Wolfpack football team represented North Carolina State University during the 1927 Southern Conference football season. They played their home games in Raleigh, North Carolina. John Witherspoon McDowall (June 26, 1905 – May 25, 1969), known as "Spindle Legs", was an American football, baseball, basketball player and track and field, track athlete at North Carolina State University. McDowall was recognized as an College Football All-Southern Team, All-Southern football player in 1927. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1975, becoming the first player from NC State to be inducted. Early years McDowall was born on June 26, 1905, in Micanopy, Florida to J. W. McDowall and M. D. Younglove. Jack played high school ball in Gainesville, Florida under Rex Farrior. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
