Bill MacDonald (footballer)
Bill MacDonald (7 March 1906 – 24 July 1973) was a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). MacDonald played in back to back premierships for the Colts Football Club in the Deniliquin Football Association in 1925 and 1926, prior to playing with Stawell. MacDonald was also an accomplished runner who finished 3rd in the 1925 Stawell Gift The Stawell Gift is Australia's oldest and richest short-distance running race. Deniliquin Football Club
The Deniliquin Football & Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Rams'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Deniliquin located in the Riverina district of New South Wales. The club's teams currently compete in the Murray FNL, which the Deniliquin football club joined in 1949. History Football appears to have been played in and around Deniliquin as early as the 1870s, but today's Deniliquin FC was born some six decades later, in 1933. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Victorian Football League (1897–1989)
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The Deniliquin Football Association (Deniliquin FA) was first established in 1900 to cater for Southern Riverina (New South Wales) Australian rules football clubs in and around Deniliquin.
