Bill Lewis (baseball)
William Henry Lewis (October 15, 1904 – October 24, 1977) was a Major League Baseball catcher. Nicknamed "Buddy", he played parts of three seasons in the majors; for the St. Louis Cardinals, and and for the Boston Braves (baseball), Boston Braves (renamed the Bees in 1936). Lewis had a much longer career in the minor leagues, playing nineteen seasons between and . After his playing days ended, he spent the rest of his life as a scout, first for the St. Louis Cardinals and later for the New York Mets. Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. The Louisville Colonels were a Major League Baseball team that also played in the American Association (AA) throughout that league's ten-year existence from 1882 until 1891.
