William Franklin Irwin (September 16, 1859 – August 7, 1933) was a baseball player for the Cincinnati Red Stockings (AA) in 1886. He batted right and threw right-handed. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. Neville is a village in Clermont County, Ohio, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 87 at the 2020 census. History Neville was laid out in 1808, and named for Gen. Presley Neville, the original owner of the town site. A post office called Neville has been in operation since 1816. Since the Ohio River Valley flood in March 1997, the village has lost more than half its population as the Federal Emergency Management Agency purchased about 40% of the village's flood-prone lots. In 2016, Neville survived an initiative on dissolving the village into surrounding Washington Township. Cincinnati Red Stockings (AA) Players
The Cincinnati Red Stockings of were baseball's first all-professional team, with ten salaried players. The Cincinnati Base Ball Club formed in 1866 and fielded competitive teams in the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) 1867–1870, a time of a transition that ambitious Cincinnati businessmen and English-born ballplayer Harry Wright shaped as much as anyone. Major League Baseball recognized those events officially by sponsoring a centennial of professional baseball in 1969.
