Bill Harlow (wrestler)
William Bill Harlow (born December 5, 1943) is an American former freestyle and folkstyle wrestler. In 2016, Harlow was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member. High school Harlow wrestled for St. Andrew's School in Sewanee, Tennessee, and enjoyed much success. As a high school senior in 1962, he was a Mid-South, State and National Prep champion, earning Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at all three tournaments. College As a sophomore and junior at Oklahoma State University in 1964 and 1965, he finished second at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at . He moved up to as a senior in 1966 and became the NCAA champion, helping OSU to win its second national team title during his time there. Harlow was also a two-time Big Eight Conference champion. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum is a museum and hall of fame for amateur wrestling, headquartered in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 2010, it began operating the Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, Iowa. History The museum was awarded to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1972 by a decision of the United States Wrestling Federation, which chose Stillwater over a competing bid from Waterloo, Iowa. The museum opened on September 11, 1976. In 2010, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame absorbed the Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, previously operated by the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum. The Dan Gable Museum had opened in 1998 in Newton, Iowa, and moved to Waterloo in 2006. In May 2016, the NWHOF voted to revoke all honors given to Dennis Hastert after his conviction, the first time the Hall of Fame has ever punished a now-former inductee. Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling originated from Great Britain and the United States. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. American high school and men's college wrestling is conducted under different rules and is termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. American collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules. Freestyle wrestling, like collegiate wrestling, has its greatest origins in catch-as-catch-can wrestling. In both styles the ultimate goal is to throw and pin the opponent to the mat, which results in an immediate win.
