William Green (born April 28, 1960) is an American former track and field athlete. He is a former United States record holder and finished fifth in the hammer throw in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. Personal life and family Bill Green grew up in the Silicon Valley region of the San Francisco Bay Area, graduating from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California in 1978, and California State University, Long Beach in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in political science. He is married to Julie Green and had two children, William John Jr. ("Jack") and Victoria ("Tori"). Green's son Jack died tragically at 19 years old September 5, 2020 by suicide following a psychiatric breakdown brought on by the COVID-19 quarantine. At the time of his death Jack was a recruited water polo player at UC Irvine, following his father into a career in athletics. William Earnest Green (February 28, 1925, Kansas City, Kansas - July 29, 1996, Los Angeles) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist. Green learned to play alto saxophone at age ten and picked up clarinet when he was twelve; he eventually learned to play most varieties of saxophone, clarinet, and flute. He served in the military until 1946, then began working at a club called Small's in Kansas City. In 1947 he relocated to Los Angeles and enrolled at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and Arts, graduating in 1952; he remained on staff as an educator there until 1962. He also ran a music education studio on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles for many years. He played early in his career with Gerald Wilson, and began working with Benny Carter in the latter half of the 1950s. Flight Lieutenant William James Green (23 April 1917 – 7 November 2014) was a British Battle of Britain Fighter pilot, who served with the RAF. Flight Lieutenant Green flew Hawker Hurricanes for 9 days during the Battle of Britain, between 20 and 29 August 1940. During that time he was shot down twice: the first time on 24 August 1940, crash landing at Hawkinge and the second time on 29 August over Deal in Kent. Royal Air Force Green joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force as an engine fitter in December 1936, and later trained as a pilot. On joining No. 501 Squadron RAF on 19 August 1940, Green had flown only about 5 hours on Hurricanes and had only flown one for the first time the day before but was sent into action regardless on 20 August 1940. Green considers himself to have been one of the least trained pilots during the Battle of Britain and lucky to have survived. William Green, otherwise known as Billy Green the Scout, was key to the British-Upper Canadian victory at the Battle of Stoney Creek. Billy Green was born February 4, 1794, in the Saltfleet Township in Upper Canada, and died March 15, 1877. His father was a New Jersey Loyalist named Ensign Adam Green. His mother, Martha Green, died a year or so after Billy was born, so he was raised by his oldest sister. He was the last born of the eleven children in his family. According to local tradition, he is believed the first white child born in the vicinity of Stoney Creek, Ontario. William Ernest Green (May 10, 1961 – March 4, 2012) was an American sprinter. Green came on the scene at Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, California. As a junior, he won the 1978 CIF California State Meet in the 440 yard dash. The following year he won the 100 yard dash while leading Cubberley team to its only CCS title, just days before the high school was to close forever. While technically still a high schooler, a few weeks later he took third overall at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 45.51, setting the National High School record in the 400 metres. The record lasted two years until it was surpassed in the same meet by Darrell Robinson. Three days later he found himself running in Europe with the big boys.
