William Dyer (settler)
William Dyer (also Dyre; 1609 – by 1677) was an early settler of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, a founding settler of both Portsmouth and Newport, and Rhode Island's first Attorney General. He is best known for being the husband of the Quaker martyr, Mary Dyer, who was executed for her Quaker activism. Sailing from England as a young man with his wife, Dyer first settled in Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, but like many members of the Boston church became a supporter of the dissident ministers John Wheelwright and Anne Hutchinson during the Antinomian Controversy, and signed a petition in support of Wheelwright. For doing this, he was disenfranchised and disarmed, and with many other supporters of Hutchinson, he signed the Portsmouth Compact, and settled on Aquidneck Island in the Narragansett Bay. William John Dyer
William John Dyer (1830 – 12 July 1909) was a New Zealand businessman and politician. Born in London, his family moved to Sydney when he was a child. He ran a trading business between Sydney, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, and moved to New Zealand in 1857. He lived at different times in Dunedin and Milton and entered politics, contesting a number of elections and representing the Tokomairaro electorate in the provincial council. Personal life Dyer was born in London in 1830, but moved to Sydney in 1839. In Sydney, he had two sons, including Frederick James Dyer. He moved to New Zealand in 1857. His wife, Emma, died in Dunedin on 18 September 1858 at age 27. On 21 April 1860, Dyer married Annie Maria Redmayne at the Episcopal Church in Dunedin. Their first-born son, Ernest Victor, died on 16 February 1861, aged 24 days. They had a daughter on 6 January 1864, a son on 30 September 1865, and a further son in 1866. ''At the Mountains of Madness'' is a science fiction-horror novella by American author H. P. Lovecraft, written in February/March 1931 and rejected that year by ''Weird Tales'' editor Farnsworth Wright on the grounds of its length. It was originally serialized in the February, March, and April 1936 issues of ''Astounding Stories''. It has been reproduced in numerous collections. The story details the events of a disastrous expedition to Antarctica in September 1930, and what is found there by a group of explorers led by the narrator, Dr. William Dyer of Miskatonic University. Throughout the story, Dyer details a series of previously untold events in the hope of deterring another group of explorers who wish to return to the continent. These events include the discovery of an ancient civilization older than the human race, and realization of Earth's past told through various sculptures and murals. William Dyer (born 25 February 1987 in Glasgow) is a Scottish professional footballer, who plays for Drumchapel United. He has previously played for St Johnstone, Brechin City, Raith Rovers, Greenock Morton, Dundee, Dumbarton and East Stirlingshire. Career Dyer began his career at St Johnstone, progressing through the club's youth ranks. In September 2007, he went on loan to Brechin City. He returned to Saints in December after making nine appearances for Brechin. He made a permanent move to Brechin in January 2008.
