Bill Donohoe
William Wilson Donohoe (April 1, 1904 – October 9, 1972), sometimes listed as Bill Donohue, was an American football player and coach. He played college football at the Carnegie Institute of Technology—now known as Carnegie Mellon University—and professionally for the Frankford Yellow Jackets of the National Football League (NFL). Donohoe served as head football coach at Saint Francis College—now known as Saint Francis University (Pennsylvania), Saint Francis University—in Loretto, Pennsylvania from 1928 to 1929 and at his alma mater, Carnegie Tech, from 1946 to 1948. Halfback (American Football)
A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back. When the principal ball carrier lines up deep in the backfield, and especially when that player is placed behind another player (usually a blocking back), as in the I formation, that player is instead referred to as a tailback. Sometimes the halfback can catch the ball from the backfield on short passing plays as they are an eligible receiver. Occasionally, they line up as additional wide receivers.
