Bill Cutler (footballer)
William Percival Cutler (29 July 1900 – 13 August 1969) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of George Phillip Cutler, and Julia Cutler, née Baker, William Percival Cutler was born at Bowenvale (near Timor), Victoria on 29 July 1900. He married Cecelia Maria Drummy (1900–1969) in 1923. He died at the Repatriation General Hospital, Heidelberg on 13 August 1969. Football Melbourne Recruited from Ballarat, he played his first match (at the age of 29) for Melbourne against South Melbourne on 3 May 1930 in round one of the 1930 VFL season. He played in the first fifteen matches of the 1930 season. On 23 August 1930, in the round fifteen match against Carlton, he was reported for three separate offences. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. 1930 VFL Season
The 1930 VFL season was the 34th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 3 May until 11 October, and comprised an 18-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Collingwood Football Club for the ninth time and fourth time consecutively, after it defeated by 30 points in the 1930 VFL Grand Final. It is the only time in the league's history that a club has won four consecutive premierships. Dinny Kelleher
Denis "Dinny" Kelleher (22 July 1902 – 30 May 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton and South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early life Born in the small rural town of Baddaginnie in 1902. He apparently captained his school's football team, then went on to play with Baddaginnie in the Euroa District Football Association in 1919, 1920 and 1921. Kelleher then played with Benalla in the Ovens and Murray Football League in 1922 and 1923, gaining selection in the OMFL team against the VFL in 1923. He stood out of football in 1924 as Benalla refused to clear him to Wangaratta. Standing out of football for a year gave him an automatic clearance. At Wangaratta he played as the team's centre half-forward in their 1925 Ovens and Murray Football League premiership and 1926 Ovens and Murray Football League grand final loss to St. Patrick's. Alex Duncan
George Robert Alexander Duncan ( – ) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League, for Stratford in the Gippsland Football League, for Coburg Football Club in the Victorian Football Association, and for Havelock in the Industrial Football League (at the age of 36). Duncan made his debut for Carlton in Round 1 of the 1921 season. He retired from VFL football in 1930, having played 141 senior games for Carlton, and four interstate games for Victoria. He is especially remembered for his performance in "Duncan's match". Fred Gilby
Frederick William Gilby (6 November 1907 – 6 November 1991) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Gilby, a half back flanker, played at Coburg in 1925 when they were in their first VFA season. He joined Carlton the following year and was a regular in the team for over a decade. Wallace Sharland
Wallace Sutherland Sharland (11 October 1902 – 17 September 1967) was an Australian rules football player, journalist and commentator. He played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Sharland, who was commonly known by his nickname '"Jumbo", was recruited from Newtown. Geelong years Sharland was an accomplished ruckman for Geelong, known for his good all-round skills, accurate palming of the ball and capability when required as a ruck shepherd. He debuted for Geelong aged 17 in the 1920 VFL season and in the same year joined the staff of the ''Geelong Advertiser''. His skills as a cricketer came into attention on 29 January 1921 when he scored a century against England's touring Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
