William Currie (British Politician)
William Currie, (26 February 1756 – 3 June 1829), was an English land owner, distiller, banker and Member of Parliament for Gatton and Winchelsea. On his father's death in 1781, he inherited his father's 75% interest in the distilling partnership his father had started with Nathaniel Byles. He also became a partner in the family banking firm, replacing his father, but seems to have taken no active part, leaving the responsibilities to his brother Isaac. In 1792, Currie was elected as a member of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia. He is chiefly remembered for the restoration of the village of East Horsley and its manor house, East Horsley Towers. Family He was the eldest son of William Currie (1721–1781) and Magdalen Lefevre (a great aunt of Charles Shaw-Lefevre, 1st Viscount Eversley), and was baptised at the Church of St. Dunstan's in Stepney on 4 March 1756. William Currie (September 21, 1862 – May 30, 1934) was a manufacturer and political figure in New Brunswick, Canada. He represented Restigouche County in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1908 to 1912 and from 1917 to 1920 as a Liberal member. William Edward Curry Jr. (born December 17, 1951 in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American lawyer and politician who has been a two-time Democratic nominee for Governor of Connecticut and a White House advisor in the administration of Bill Clinton. Education and early political life Curry was educated at St. Justin's School in Hartford and Northwest Catholic High School in West Hartford. He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and a J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. In 1978, at the age of 26, he was elected state senator from a district that included Farmington, Connecticut. William Cleveland Currie (November 29, 1926 – October 30, 2013) was an American professional baseball player. He was a right-handed pitcher whose ten-year minor league career was punctuated by a three-game stint in Major League Baseball with the Washington Senators. From 1950 to 1959, the , Currie compiled a 92–72 win–loss record in minor league baseball, playing for at least six Major League organizations. His brief trial with Washington in April 1955, however, was marked by his rude treatment by the New York Yankees in his MLB debut at Yankee Stadium. Currie entered the game (the Senators' second of the year) in the fifth inning as his team's third pitcher of the day with New York already leading 7–0. William Morton Curry (12 October 1935 – 20 August 1990) was an English professional footballer who scored 184 goals from 393 appearances in the Football League playing as a centre forward for Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Derby County, Mansfield Town and Chesterfield. He played once, and scored, for England's under-23 team. He was Brighton's top scorer in the 1959–60 season with 26 goals in all competitions, and Mansfield's top scorer in both 1965–66 and 1966–67. William Alexander Curry (born October 21, 1942) is a retired American football coach and former player. Most recently, Curry was the head coach at Georgia State University, which began competing in college football in 2010. Previously, Curry served as the head football coach at the Georgia Institute of Technology (1980–1986), the University of Alabama (1987–1989), and the University of Kentucky (1990–1996). Between coaching jobs at Kentucky and Georgia State, Curry was a football analyst for ESPN.
