Bill Cook (politician)
William Cook (born August 12, 1945) is an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, he served as member of the North Carolina General Assembly from 2011 to 2019. Cook graduated from the University of Maryland in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a concentration in economics. After graduation, he was offered an analyst position with Potomac Electric Power Company The Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) is an American utility company that supplies electric power to the city of Washington, D.C. and to surrounding communities in Maryland. The North Carolina House of Representatives is one of the two houses of the North Carolina General Assembly. The House is a 120-member body led by a Speaker of the House, who holds powers similar to those of the President pro-tem in the North Carolina Senate. The qualifications to be a member of the House are found in the state Constitution: "Each Representative, at the time of his election, shall be a qualified voter of the State, and shall have resided in the district for which he is chosen for one year immediately preceding his election." The North Carolina Senate is the upper chamber of the North Carolina General Assembly, which along with the North Carolina House of Representatives—the lower chamber—comprises the state legislature of North Carolina. The term of office for each senator is only two years. The Senate's prerogatives and powers are similar to those of the other house, the House of Representatives.
