Bill Collins (American Football Coach)
William Newton Collins (born May 21, 1894) was an American football and basketball coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Missouri Wesleyan College in Cameron, Missouri from 1923 to 1925 and William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri from 1927 to 1932. Collins was also the head basketball coach at William Jewell from 1928 to 1933, tallying a mark of 50–35. Collins played college football as a halfback at the University of Missouri from 1916 to 1919. In 1920, he coached Missouri's freshman football team. Bill Collins (catcher)
William J. Collins (1863 – June 8, 1893) was an Irish professional baseball catcher. He played six seasons in pro baseball; four of those in Major League Baseball. He was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1863 (exact date unknown). Collins died on June 8, 1893, and was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Maspeth, New York. Professional career Collins began his professional career in 1887 with the major league New York Metropolitans of the American Association. He appeared in one game with the Metropolitans and got one hit in four at bats. The next season, 1888, Collins played with the minor league Lynn Shoemakers of the New England League. In 1889, Collins played for the Philadelphia Athletics of the American Association; in one game he got one hit, one RBI, and one stolen base in four at bats. William Hanna "Buster" Collins (15 February 1920 – 3 November 2010) was an Irish professional footballer. His clubs included Distillery, Belfast Celtic, Luton Town and Gillingham. He later became reserve team manager at Gillingham, and in 1965 was appointed by manager Freddie Cox as the head of the club's newly organised youth scheme, a post he held for nearly twenty years. He served as first team trainer and kitman for a further ten years, finally retiring in 1993 at the age of 73. William R. Collins (September 23, 1928 – April 8, 2006) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1950s and 1960s and the Senior PGA Tour in the 1980s. Life Collins was born in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania and grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. Collins joined the PGA Tour in 1958 and won four events between 1959 and 1962. His first victory came at the 1959 Greater New Orleans Open Invitational by three strokes (280) over Jack Burke Jr. and Tom Nieporte. In 1960, Collins finished in a three-way tie for first at the end of regulation at the Insurance City Open, which he and Jack Fleck lost in a playoff to Arnold Palmer. His best finishes in major championships were T-7 at The Masters in 1961 and a 7th-place finish at the 1964 U.S. Open. He was a member of the victorious 1961 Ryder Cup team. William Shirley Collins (March 27, 1882 – June 26, 1961) was an outfielder in Major League Baseball. On October 6, 1910, while playing for the Boston Doves against the Philadelphia Phillies, Collins became the first major league player to hit for the natural cycle (a single, double, triple, and home run, in that order). In 228 games over four seasons, Collins posted a .224 batting average (173-for-773) with 91 runs, 3 home runs, 54 RBIs, 42 stolen bases and 54 bases on balls. William Henry Collins OAM (23 September 1928 – 14 June 1997) was an Australian racecaller and radio and television personality who earned the reputation for being able to accurately call the winner of even the closest of races. Known as "The Accurate One", he was well known for his call of the Melbourne Cup each year. One of his most notable commentaries was the 1986 Cox Plate, dubbed the " Race of the Century". Collins also called important races internationally including the UK, US, South Africa, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore. Collins died on 14 June 1997 from cancer.
