William Rossa Cole
William Rossa Cole (November 20, 1919 – August 2, 2000) was an American editor, anthologist, columnist, author, and writer of light verse. He produced around 75 books, most of them anthologies. Cole was born on November 20, 1919 to William Harrison Cole and Margaret O'Donovan-Rossa of Staten Island, New York. He was the younger brother of Rossa Willam Cole. His grandfather was the Irish Fenian leader Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa. After military service in World War II, Cole took various jobs in the publishing industry, serving as publicity director at Alfred A. Knopf, publicity director and editor at Simon & Schuster, and publisher of William Cole Books at Viking Press. He was also a prolific writer and anthologist, editing and authoring over 75 books, as well as columns in '' Saturday Review''. William Hinson Cole
William Hinson Cole (January 11, 1837 – July 8, 1886) was an American politician and Congressman from Maryland. Biography Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Cole attended private school and studied medicine and law. He was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Baltimore in 1857. He later moved to Kansas City, Kansas, to practice law, and also served as a member of the Kansas Territorial House of Representatives. He graduated from the University of Louisiana (present day Tulane University) in 1860. During the American Civil War, Cole enlisted in the Confederate States Army as a surgeon of Francis S. Bartow's Eighth Georgia Regiment. He served in the Battle of Gettysburg, then took charge of the wounded in General James Longstreet's corps. He was captured and held as prisoner at Fort McHenry in Baltimore for six months, until he was returned South and acted as surgeon on the staff of Gen. William Cole (physician)
William Cole, (1635 – 1716) was an English physician and medical writer. Life William Cole, born in 1635, was educated at Gloucester Hall, Oxford, as a member of which society he graduated MB on 7 August 1660, and MD on 9 July 1666. He practised first at Worcester, where, as appears from his writings, he was consulted by persons of distinction, and was probably successful. From Worcester he wrote in 1681 to Sydenham (though personally unknown to him) the letter which called forth the latter's well-known ''Dissertatio Epistolaris''. The personal reference to Cole in this work shows that he was already well known by his medical writings. About 1692 he removed to London, and was admitted 26 June 1693 a candidate, and 25 June 1694 a fellow of the College of Physicians. Some time before his death he appears to have retired to the country. He died on 12 June 1716, and was buried at Allesley, near Coventry, where his grave with memorial inscription still exists. William Cole (3 August 1714 – 16 December 1782), was a Cambridgeshire clergyman and antiquary, known for his extensive manuscript collections on the history of Cambridgeshire and of Buckinghamshire. He published little, but left his manuscript volumes (over 100 of them) to the British Museum, where they have proved invaluable to people writing about the history of Cambridgeshire. He kept a diary between 1765 and 1770, and two volumes – one relating to a trip to France, and one to his time at Bletchley – were published in 1931. William Cole (c.1530–1600) was an English Puritan clergyman, President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford and Dean of Lincoln. A Protestant refugee from Marian England, Cole returned on Elizabeth accession and was appointed President of Corpus Christi College in 1568, a controversial appointment, since most of the conservative fellowship was opposed to his Puritan beliefs and his status as a married clergyman. He was persuaded to resign the presidency in 1598 in favour of John Rainolds, with whom he swapped jobs, going to be Dean of Lincoln until his death in 1600.
