Bill Burns (anchor)
William M. Burns (April 10, 1913 – September 16, 1997) was an American journalist and television news anchor. Burns anchored the news for over three decades (1953–1989) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh for KDKA-TV, KDKA, which was the largest station in the market. Career Burns was a native of Houtzdale, PA. After serving in World War II, where he earned a Purple Heart medal, Burns came to Pittsburgh in 1946 to work for radio station KQV. He settled in Pittsburgh with his wife, and the couple subsequently had two children, Michael and Patti. He reported for KQV until 1953, when he went to work for what was then KDKA-TV, WDTV, Channel 3. WDTV was originally identified as a DuMont Television Network affiliate but became a CBS affiliate and changed its call letters to KDKA and its frequency to Channel 2 in 1955. Bill Burns (born 1956) is a Canadian artist. Life and work Burns is known for his artists' books, performance, sculpture, drawing and multiples. He completed his post-graduate work in London at Goldsmiths College under Gerard Hemsworth and John Latham where Latham was a visiting artist. William George Burns (22 October 1933 – 16 March 2009) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party and served in the House of Representatives from 1977 to 1980, representing the Victorian seat of Isaacs. He ran a pub in Collingwood before entering parliament. Early life Burns was born in Northern Ireland. He arrived in Tasmania in 1951 as a "Little Brother" with the Big Brother Movement and settled in the Derwent Valley. He eventually moved to Melbourne where he became a publican, the proprietor of the Sir Robert Peel Hotel in Collingwood. Politics Burns joined the Young Liberal Movement in Tasmania in 1952. William Thomas Burns (January 27, 1880 – June 6, 1953), nicknamed "Sleepy Bill", was an American baseball player who played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) for five different teams from 1908 to 1912. He earned his nickname for his noticeable lack of intensity on the mound. Burns was best known for his involvement in the alleged fixing of the 1919 World Series, dubbed the Black Sox Scandal. Baseball career Burns played in the minor leagues from 1906 to 1907. Bill Burns (footballer)
William Philip Burns (19 August 1884 – 17 June 1955) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong and Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Bill 'Boots' Burns played with Ararat Football Club 1904–05, 10 games, 1904 Premiership Burns, from South Bendigo originally, started out at Geelong and in 1908 became a member of Richmond's inaugural VFL team. A follower, he went from hero to villain during the 1909 VFL season after kicking the winning goal in one game and then getting a life ban for a kicking incident later in the year. His goal came in Richmond's round two encounter against University, after he had received a bump which gave him bad concussion. He was in the dressing room at three quarter time, preparing to go to hospital, but decided to return to the field as the scores were close.
