Bill Bennett (footballer)
William Bennett (born 12 April 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Carlton in the VFL during the 1960s. A forward from the Victorian town of Maffra, Bennett played 11 games with Carlton which included the 1968 Grand Final. Lining up at centre half-forward, Bennett's side finished victors by three points in what would be his last league game. The Gippsland League (formerly known as the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. Maffra is a town in Victoria, Australia, east of Melbourne. It is in the Shire of Wellington local government area and it is the second most populous city of the Shire.
