Bill Baarsma
Bill Baarsma is an American politician and academic who served as the 37th mayor of Tacoma, Washington from 2001 to 2009. Early life and education Baarsma was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Puget Sound, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Baarsma was also selected for the Scottish Rite Masonic Fellowship for graduate study at George Washington University, where he earned his master's degree. Career While living in Washington, D.C., Baarsma worked on the staff of Senator Henry M. Jackson and as a White House Fellow with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Prior to his election as mayor, Baarsma taught business and public administration at the University of Puget Sound and served on the Tacoma City Council from 1992 to 1999. Tacoma ( ) is the county seat of Pierce County, Washington, United States. Thomas Menino
Thomas Michael Menino (December 27, 1942 – October 30, 2014) was an American politician who served as the 53rd mayor of Boston, from 1993 to 2014. He was the city's longest-serving mayor. He was elected mayor in 1993 after first serving three months in the position of "acting mayor" following the resignation of his predecessor Raymond Flynn (who had been appointed United States ambassador to the Holy See). Everytown for Gun Safety is an American nonprofit organization which advocates for gun control and against gun violence. Everytown was created in 2013 when Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America joined forces. The organization works to "support efforts to educate policy makers, as well the press and the public, about the consequences of gun violence and promote efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals." Marilyn Strickland
Marilyn Strickland (born September 25, 1962) is an American politician who is the U.S. representative from Washington's 10th congressional district. The district is based in the state capital of Olympia, and also includes much of eastern Tacoma. A member of the Democratic Party, Strickland took office on January 3, 2021. She served as the 38th mayor of Tacoma from 2010 to 2018. She is the first member of the United States Congress of both Korean and African-American heritage, and the first African-American member elected from Washington.
