Bill Armstrong (announcer)
William Armstrong (born January 19, 1932, Gloucester, Massachusetts – January 2, 2000, Frazier Park, California) was an American television game show announcer and producer. He produced ''The Hollywood Squares'' for several years, and later was a business partner with ''Squares'' host Peter Marshall in a production company. He received two Emmy nominations as producer for Hollywood Squares. Armstrong also co-produced and announced on ''Celebrity Sweepstakes'' and ''The Reel to Reel Picture Show''. He was the announcer of KTLA's Liar's Club, a role he continued in its first year of syndication and returned to in 1988. He was the executive producer of Matchmaker, for which he occasionally announced as well. ''Liar's Club'' is an American game show, originally produced by Ralph Andrews, featuring a panel of celebrity guests who offered explanations of obscure or unusual objects. Contestants attempted to determine which explanation was correct in order to win prizes. ''Liar's Club'' was first seen during the 1969–70 season with Rod Serling as host, and returned for a three-season run from 1976 to 1979, after airing as a local series on Los Angeles' KTLA during the 1974–75 season. Bill Armstrong hosted the KTLA version, which aired on Saturday nights at 7:30 pm, and briefly hosted the program in syndication during the first season in 1976–77, but was soon replaced by Allen Ludden. ''Fantasy'' is an American game show co-hosted by Peter Marshall and Leslie Uggams, with Chris Lemmon and Meredith MacRae as remote correspondents. Bill Armstrong announced the show. It aired on NBC from September 13, 1982 to October 28, 1983, and was videotaped at the network's studios in Burbank, California. ''Stumpers!'' is a game show hosted by Allen Ludden that aired on NBC from October 4 to December 31, 1976. Lin Bolen, former head of NBC Daytime Programming, developed the show. Bill Armstrong was the program's regular announcer, with Charlie O'Donnell filling in for several episodes. The show featured game play similar to ''Password'', with two teams (consisting of one celebrity and one contestant) attempting to guess the subject of puzzles based on clues provided by their opponents. The series premiered and ended on the same dates as ''50 Grand Slam'', which immediately followed ''Stumpers!'' on the NBC schedule and was hosted by Tom Kennedy. ''Matchmaker'' was a dating show that aired in syndication from September 14, 1987 to September 1988. It was hosted by Dave Hull. Jimmie Walker also hosted for one week of shows. The executive producer and occasional announcer was Bill Armstrong, who replaced original announcer Lou Hunt. Syndication was arranged by Four Star International, in association with Kleinman, Pollard, Hull Productions, and Orbis Communications. Frazier Park is an unincorporated community in Kern County, California. It is west of Lebec, at an elevation of . It is one of the Mountain Communities of the Tejon Pass. The population was 2,691 in the 2010 census, up from 2,348 in 2000.
