Bildu
EH Bildu, short for Euskal Herria Bildu ( en, link=yes, Basque Country Gather or Basque Country Unite) is a left-wing, Basque nationalist, pro-independence political coalition active in the Spanish autonomous communities of Basque Country, Navarre and Burgos Province. EHB's predecessor Bildu ("Gather") was launched on 3 April 2011 to participate in the May 2011 local elections It was formed as a reaction to the Supreme Court of Spain's ruling in March 2011 that barred the new left-wing Basque nationalist ''(Abertzale left)'' Sortu party from electoral participation. Bildu was an alliance of the centre-left Eusko Alkartasuna, left-wing Alternatiba and independents of the left-wing nationalist spectrum, many of whom former members or supporters of the outlawed Batasuna party. Eusko Alkartasuna (; en, Basque Solidarity; es, Solidaridad Vasca; french: Solidarité basque) is a Basque nationalist and social-democratic political party operating in Spain and France. The Basque language name means ''Basque Solidarity'' and abbreviated as EA. The party describes itself as a "Basque nationalist, democratic, popular, progressive and non-denominational party". Recently, the party adopted the slogan "Euskal Sozialdemokrazia" ("Basque social democracy"). According to their statute, they are striving to achieve "full national and social freedom in and for the Basque Country". They support the creation of an independent Basque Country along the avenues provided by the European Union, as a union of peoples, a federation of nations, not states. Maddalen Iriarte
Maddalen Iriarte Okiñena (born 1963 in San Sebastián) is a journalist and politician from the Basque Country in Spain. Since 2016, she is the spokesperson for EH Bildu at the Basque Parliament. She led the candidacy of EH Bildu in the 2020 Basque regional election. Biography Born in San Sebastián in 1963, Iriarte began a career in journalism at the local radio station Loiola Herri Irratia at the age of eighteen, while she was a Law student at the University of the Basque Country. In 1986, Iriarte joined the Basque public broadcast service EITB, where she was the presenter and editor of the ETB 1 news program ''Gaur Egun'' until 2009. Iriarte was also an editor and presenter on election results programmes, and political debate programmes ''Ados?'', ''Gau-on'' and ''Azpimarra''. 2019 Spanish Local Elections
The 2019 Spanish local elections were held on Sunday, 26 May 2019, to elect all 66,979 councillors in the 8,131 municipalities of Spain and all 1,038 seats in 38 provincial deputations. The elections were held simultaneously with regional elections in twelve autonomous communities, as well as elections in the three foral deputations of the Basque Country, the four island councils in the Balearic Islands, the seven island cabildos in the Canary Islands and the European Parliament. Sortu ( en, Create) is a Basque socialist political party. Founded in February 2011, it is the first political party belonging to the Basque nationalist "abertzale left" that openly rejects any kind of political violence. Before Sortu, sections of the Basque nationalist left who rejected ETA's violence left the movement and founded another party, Aralar, to represent that element of the abertzale left. The Senate ( es, Senado) is the upper house of the Cortes Generales, which along with the Congress of Deputies – the lower chamber – comprises the Parliament of the Kingdom of Spain. Cambio-Aldaketa ( en, "Change") was a grouping of electors in Navarre supported by the "quadripartite", the political parties supporting Uxue Barkos's regional government— Geroa Bai, EH Bildu, Podemos and Izquierda-Ezkerra—to contest the 2015 Spanish Senate election. The first incarnation of the alliance was disbanded after it secured only one out of the four directly-elected senators in Navarre, with its stated aim having been to win the election and subsequently obtain three senators. The Basque Parliament ( Basque: ''Eusko Legebiltzarra'', Spanish: ''Parlamento Vasco'') is the legislative body of the Basque Autonomous Community of Spain and the elected assembly to which the Basque Government is responsible. The Parliament meets in the Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, although the first session of the modern assembly, as constituted by the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country, was held in Guernica – the symbolic centre of Basque freedoms – on 31 March 1980.
