Bike Week (Bicycle Week)
Bike Week is a yearly international event, taking place in different countries throughout the World. It is typically a seven-day event that advocates bicycling for transportation. The event has been steadily gaining popularity in Asian, American and European cities and countries over the past decade. Bike Week has been running in the UK since 1923. Bike Week typically takes place in the summer, and runs in the UK during the second week of June, following just after the international World Bicycle Day on 3 June. It is typically an entire week of cycling events that cover a variety of different types of cycling. The central aim of the event is to create awareness of the benefits of cycling and give those who don't currently cycle the opportunity to help the environment and exercise in a fun and social way. Wayne Andrew Hemingway (born 19 January 1961) is an English designer and co-founder of Red or Dead. He is also on the Design Council Trustee Board and having been with the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) for a decade since its inception (as Chair of Building For Life) is now on the Design Council CABE Committee. Bike-to-Work Day
Bike to Work Day is an annual event that promotes the bicycle as an option for commuting to work (bicycle commuting). It is held in the Spring in a variety of locations including the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Bike Week is the week that includes the Bike-to-Work Day, in May, and the World Bicycle Day, on June 3. Bicycle commuting is the use of a bicycle to travel from home to a place of work or study — in contrast to the use of a bicycle for sport, recreation or touring. In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as International World Bicycle Day. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport."
