''Bignonia'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae. Its genus and family were named after Jean-Paul Bignon by his protégé Joseph Pitton de Tournefort in 1694, and the genus was established as part of modern botanical nomenclature in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus. The Abbé Jean-Paul Bignon, Cong.Orat. (19 September 1662, Paris – 14 March 1743, Île Belle) was a French ecclesiastic, statesman, writer and preacher and librarian to Louis XIV of France. Louis Bignon
Louis Bignon (26 June 1816 – 18 May 1906) was a famous French chef whose Café Riche became the most fashionable in Paris. He was also a noted agriculturalist, won prizes for his products and was awarded the Legion of Honour. Early years Louis Bignon was born on 26 June 1816 in Hérisson in the Allier department. He began work in Paris in the kitchen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Quai d'Orsay. Later he was a waiter at "La Minerve" at the corner of the rue Montpensier. He apprenticed as a cook in various fashionable restaurants. In 1843 Bignon acquired and reorganized the Café Foy. In a few years he had made it a leading center of gastronomy. The Café Foy, which later became the Paillard, was at the corner of the Rue de la Chaussée-d'Antin and the Boulevard des Italiens. Louis Pierre Édouard, Baron Bignon (3 January 1771 in La Mailleraye-sur-Seine – 6 January 1841) was a French diplomat and historian. Although he had received a good education, he served throughout the early part of the French Revolutionary Wars without rising above the rank of private. Bignon Commission (French Revolution)
The Bignon Commission (french: commission Bignon; 1793–1794) was a French military tribunal that terrorized Nantes during the French Revolution. The president of the tribunal was Antoine Gonchon but it came to be known after François Bignon, captain of the 2nd battalion of Paris Volunteers, who directed most of its proceedings. During the Reign of Terror, the radicals had little trust in their revolutionary committees who acted as a leadership group. With living conditions and hunger still an issue even after King Louis XVI's death, the people were unsatisfied with the new leadership in the committees and oftentimes, they were fearful of the committees. As a result, counter-revolutionary groups formed. These counter-revolutionaries believed that they were following the true ideals of the revolution, while the committees saw them as a threat instead. Le Bignon-Mirabeau
Le Bignon-Mirabeau () is a commune in the Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Originally called simply ''Le Bignon'', the small village is approximately south of Paris, situated between the communes of Montargis to the south and Nemours to the north. Population Comte de Mirabeau The commune was the birthplace of one of the most celebrated figures of the French Revolution, the comte de Mirabeau. The future orator and statesman was born in the Chateau de Bignon on 4 April 1749. After Mirabeau's death, the commune's original name was amended to Le Bignon-Mirabeau by a resolution of the Municipal Council on 1 November 1792. The name eventually passed out of favor but was officially and permanently restored in the 1880s. A bronze statue of Mirabeau was erected in the commune to commemorate the restoration of the name. Armand-Jérôme Bignon
Armand-Jérôme Bignon (21 October 1711, Paris – 8 March 1772, Paris) was a French lawyer, royal librarian and conseiller d'État. Biography The lord of Île Belle and Hardricourt, he was made avocat général to the Grand Conseil in 1729, maître des requêtes for Soissons in 1737 and president of the Grand Conseil in 1738. In 1743, on his brother's death he was made royal librarian (a post Armand-Jérôme had inherited in turn from their uncle Jean-Paul Bignon). Armand-Jérôme resigned from it in 1770 in favour of his son Jérôme-Frédéric. He was elected to the Académie française in 1743 and to the Académie des Inscriptions in 1751. Jérôme Bignon (1589–1656) was a French lawyer born in Paris. Life His family originated from the western part of France, and came to Paris at the beginning of the sixteenth century. He was uncommonly precocious, and under his father's tuition had acquired an immense mass of knowledge before he was ten years of age. A work by him entitled ''Choréographie, ou description de la Terre Sainte'' was published in 1600.
