Big Spring Correctional Center
The Big Spring Correctional Center (BSCC) is a privately operated prison located in Big Spring, Howard County, Texas, operated by the GEO Group under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It houses federal "deportable alien" detainees. BSCC should not be confused with the federally owned and operated Federal Correctional Institution, Big Spring in the same town, or its satellite camp. Big Spring is a city in and the county seat of Howard County, Texas, United States, at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 87 and Interstate 20. With a population of 27,282 as of the 2010 census, it is the largest city between Midland to the west, Abilene to the east, Lubbock to the north, and San Angelo to the south. Big Spring was established as the county seat of Howard County in 1882; it is the largest community in the county. Webb Air Force Base , previously named Big Spring Air Force Base, was a United States Air Force facility of the Air Training Command that operated from 1951 to 1977 in West Texas within the current city limits of Big Spring. Webb AFB was a major undergraduate pilot training (UPT) facility for the Air Force, and by 1969, almost 9,000 pilots had been trained at Webb. The last operational wing at Webb AFB was the 78th Flying Training Wing.
