Big Ideas (Australia)
''Big Ideas'' is an Australian weekly radio program on ABC Radio National which presents lectures or panels on ideas or issues of particular importance. It is also available as a podcast. it is presented by Natasha Mitchell, who has been presenting the program since 10 April 2023. She replaced Paul Barclay, who has presented the program since at least January 2002. ABC Radio National
Radio National, known on-air as RN, is an Australia-wide public service broadcasting radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). From 1947 until 1985, the network was known as ABC Radio 2. History 1937: Predecessors and beginnings From 1928, the National Broadcasting Service, as part of the federal Postmaster-General's Department, gradually took over responsibility for all the existing stations that were sponsored by public licence fees ("A" Class licences). The outsourced Australian Broadcasting Company supplied programs from 1929. In 1932 a commission was established, merging the original ABC company and the National Broadcasting Service. It is from this time that Radio National dates as a distinct network within the ABC, in which a system of program relays was developed during the subsequent decades to link stations spread across the nation. Paul Barclay
Paul Barclay is an Australian writer, journalist, radio presenter and producer. Biography Barclay was born in Melbourne. Since the late 1990s, he has worked as a radio presenter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Queensland, Northern Territory, and Victoria. In 2005, Barclay won the Walkley Award for his investigation of the events and issues surrounding Australia's notorious Philip Nitschke, "Dr Death". ABC Television (Australian TV Network)
ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV. The Australian public broadcaster's television service was launched in November 1956 from its first television station in Australia, ABN Sydney. This was the second one in the country, with the commercial channel TCN having launched two months earlier. Waleed Aly
Waleed Aly (born 15 August 1978) is an Australian journalist, academic, and lawyer. Aly is a lecturer in politics at Monash University working in their Global Terrorism Research Centre, and a co-host of Network Ten's news and current affairs television program '' The Project''. He also writes for Fairfax Media, co-hosts ''The Minefield'', an ABC RN program about ethical dilemmas of modern life, and is lead guitarist in rock band Robot Child. In 2016, he won the Gold Logie Award for Best Personality on Australian Television. Early life and education Aly was born on 15 August 1978 in Melbourne, Victoria, to Egyptian parents. He is a Sunni Muslim. He attended Wesley College, completing the International Baccalaureate in 1996.
