Big Drama
Big Drama (February 14, 2006 – January 25, 2021) was a Thoroughbred racehorse. He was euthanized in January 2021 following complications with a stomach issue. Background Big Drama was a dark bay bred in Florida by his owner Harold Queen. He was trained by David Fawkes. He was sired by Montbrook out of Riveting Drama. Racing career Big Drama's two-year-old campaign included winning the Grade III Delta Jackpot and all three legs of the Florida Stallion Series, making him one of only six two-year-olds to do so in the twenty-seven-year history of the series. Highlights of his three-year-old year include winning the Red Legend Stakes at Charles Town Races and Slots. He set the 7-furlong track record of 1:20.88 in the Grade II Swale Stakes at Gulfstream, although he was disqualified from the win and placed second due to bumping This Ones for Phil. Delta Jackpot Stakes
The Delta Jackpot Stakes was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana between 2002 and 2017. A Grade III stakes open to two-year-old horses, it was raced in November over a distance of miles (8.5 Furlongs) on dirt. History The inaugural running of the Delta Jackpot took place in 2002. Run over a distance of one mile (1.6 km), it carried a purse of $500,000. For the following year, the race was lengthened to miles and the purse was increased to $1 million to make it the second-richest race for two-year-olds in North America behind only the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. The 2005 running of the Delta Jackpot Stakes was cancelled due to Hurricane Rita. The 2017 running was cancelled due to Hurricane Harvey. West Virginia Derby
The West Virginia Derby is an American Grade III stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbred race horses run over a distance of miles on the dirt at Mountaineer Race Track in Chester, West Virginia in August. The purse for the event is US$500,000. History The inaugural running of the event was 21 April 1923, the ninth race day at the newly opened Huntingdon's Tri-State Park. Estimates put the crowd size at 10,000. Huntington's hotel rooms were so solidly booked that 50 people applied at the city jail for lodging.
