Biermann Ratjen Medal
The Biermann-Ratjen-Medaille (Biermann Ratjen Medal) is an award of the City of Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 1978 by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to commemorate the achievements of the previous senator of culture Hans-Harder Biermann-Ratjen. The award is given to people, groups and institutions who have made outstanding contributions to the culture of Hamburg. The Praeses of the Department of Culture decides on the recipients and awards the medal on behalf of the Senate. Rosemarie Clausen
Rosemarie Clausen (née Rose Marie Margarethe Elisabeth Kögel); (5 March 1907 – 9 January 1990) was a German photographer. She worked as Theatre photography, theatre and Portrait photography, portrait photographer and received several awards for her work. Life Born in near Berlin, Clausen was a granddaughter of the Oberhof and Domprediger and daughter of the pastor and school councillor Rudolf Kögel and his wife Sabine, née Gehring. In 1934, she married the journalist and film producer Jürgen Clausen (1905–1944), who was killed as a pilot of a night fighter during the "Big Week". Clausen, who originally wanted to become a portrait painter, completed an photography, photographer apprenticeship with Marie Böhm, the head of the renowned studio Becker & Maass, and after three years passed the assistant examination with distinction at the Lette-Verein in Berlin. Monteverdi-Chor
The Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg is a mixed choir in Hamburg, the chamber choir of the University of Hamburg since 1961. Founded in 1955 by Jürgen Jürgens and directed by him until 1994, it is one of Germany's most famous concert choirs. The choir is well known for its interpretations of Baroque and Renaissance music, but covers choral music from the Renaissance to contemporary music. Since 1994, the conductor has been Gothart Stier. History The choir was founded in 1955 as the "Chor am Italienischen Kulturinstitut" (Choir at the Italian Cultural Institute), but renamed the same year after Claudio Monteverdi, then a largely unknown composer. Since 1961 it has been the chamber choir of the University of Hamburg, where Jürgens worked as a director of music from 1961 to 1993. Jürgen Jürgens
Jürgen Jürgens (5 October 1925 – 4 August 1994) was a German choral conductor and academic teacher. He founded and directed the Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg, a pioneering ensemble for Monteverdi's music. Biography Born in Frankfurt am Main, Jürgens received his musical training at the Musisches Gymnasium Frankfurt with Kurt Thomas. Jürgens studied singing and choir direction with at the Musikhochschule Freiburg. In 1955, he founded the award-winning Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg. They recorded for Archiv Produktion, focussing on works of Claudio Monteverdi. Later the choir became involved in the Telefunken/Teldec Bach cantatas project with the Leonhardt-Consort. From 1961 to 1993, Jürgens was University Music Director of the Choir and Orchestra at the University of Hamburg. and was appointed professor at the University of Hamburg in 1973. Heidi Kabel
Heidi Bertha Auguste Kabel (; 27 August 1914 – 15 June 2010) was a German actress and musician. Most of her stage roles were performed at the Ohnsorg-Theater in Hamburg, many of them in Low German. She became famous in Germany as many of the productions of the Ohnsorg Theater were transmitted on German television. Heidi Kabel was born in Hamburg; the city and its landmarks inspired many of her best-known songs (''In Hamburg sagt man Tschüss'', ''Jungfernstiegmarsch''). She was married to stage director and actor Hans Mahler, who died in 1970. Their daughter, Heidi Mahler, is also an actress. She died in Hamburg on 15 June 2010 at the age of 95 and was honoured with a funeral service at St. Michael's Church ten days later. Wilhelm Brückner-Rüggeberg
Wilhelm Brückner-Rüggeberg (15 April 1906, in Stuttgart – 1 April 1985, in Hamburg) was a German conductor. He began his career in Munich as an assistant to Hans Knappertsbusch at the Bavarian State Opera. After several appointments in Essen, Dortmund, and Kiel, in 1934 he succeeded Herbert von Karajan as first Kapellmeister in Ulm. In 1937 he conducted a complete Beethoven cycle at the invitation of Furtwängler. In 1938 he became director of the Hamburg Lehrergesangsverein and received an appointment at the Hamburg State Opera. In Hamburg he conducted over 700 concerts for schoolchildren. He frequently worked with the Hamburger Symphoniker and the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1943 he started teaching conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg where he was promoted to a full professorship in 1955. His grave is located in the Hamburg Waldfriedhof.
