Bienvenido Noriega Jr.
Bienvenido Munoz Noriega Jr. (1952–1994) was a Philippine playwright. Early life and education Bienvenido Munoz Noriega Jr. was born in Cauayan, Isabela as the second child of Bienvenido Noriega and Socorro Munoz of Cauayan and Cabatuan, Isabela, respectively. His native languages were Ilocano and Ibanag, but he picked up on Tagalog and English by renting Tagalog and Marvel comics. He finished elementary school at St. Ferdinand College in Ilagan, Isabela and secondary education at St. Anthony School, Singalong, Malate, Manila (Salutatorian, 1968). He completed A.B. Economics at the University of the Philippines within 3 years at the age of 18. After graduating cum laude and valedictorian of class of 1971, he went on to earn his M.A. Economics at the same university, again graduating as class valedictorian in 1973. A playwright or dramatist is a person who writes plays. Etymology The word "play" is from Middle English pleye, from Old English plæġ, pleġa, plæġa ("play, exercise; sport, game; drama, applause"). The word "wright" is an archaic English term for a craftsman or builder (as in a wheelwright or cartwright). The words combine to indicate a person who has "wrought" words, themes, and other elements into a dramatic form—a play. (The homophone with "write" is coincidental.) The first recorded use of the term "playwright" is from 1605, 73 years before the first written record of the term "dramatist". It appears to have been first used in a pejorative sense by Ben Jonson to suggest a mere tradesman fashioning works for the theatre. Dramatis personae (Latin language, Latin: 'persons of the drama') are the main character (arts), characters in a dramatic work written in a list. Such lists are commonly employed in various forms of theatre, and also on screen. Typically, off-stage characters are not considered part of the dramatis personae. The Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP) was a government-owned corporation of the Republic of the Philippines created to promote the growth and development of the local film industry. Created in 1982 after the first Manila International Film Festival through Executive Order 770, the ECP was primarily known as a production company. However, it was created among other things; to hold the Manila International Film Festival, to manage the Manila Film Center, administer a film rating and classification system and to establish and operate the National Film Archive.
