Bideford RFC
Bideford RFC is an English Rugby union team formed in 1926. The club is based in Bideford, Devon and operates four senior men's teams, as well as multiple youth, ladies and mini teams. The first team, the Chiefs play in Counties 1 Western West following their relegation from Tribute South West 1 West at the end of the 2017–18 season. The club has a longstanding rivalry with its neighbour, Barnstaple RFC, Barnstaple, and the traditional Boxing Day fixture between the two sides often attracts crowds in excess of a thousand supporters. The Devon Rugby Football Union is the sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Devon in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Devon, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. Tribute Western Counties West
Counties 1 Western West (known as Counties 1 Tribute Western West for sponsorship reasons) is an English rugby union league. Originally a single division called Western Counties, in 1996 the division split into two regional leagues called Western Counties North and Western Counties West. Western Counties West was renamed Counties 1 Western West prior to the 2022–23 season and is currently a seventh tier league for clubs based in the south-west of England; mainly Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. The champions are promoted to Regional 2 South West. The number of teams relegated depends on feedback following promotion and relegation in the leagues above, but can be one, two or three, to either Counties 2 Cornwall, Counties 2 Devon or Counties 2 Somerset, depending on location. 1987–88 Courage Cornwall/Devon League
The 1987–88 Courage Cornwall/Devon League was the first full season of rugby union within the eighth tier of the English league system currently known as Tribute Cornwall/Devon. The league consisted of eleven teams; six from Devon and five from Cornwall. Each team played one match against each of the other teams, playing a total of ten matches with five at home and five away. Both Crediton and Exmouth won nine of their ten matches, with Crediton declared champions because of their superior points difference, and winning promotion to the Western Counties league for season 1988–89. Newton Abbot, lost all ten matches and were relegated to Devon One while St Austell, with one win and a draw, were relegated to Cornwall One. River Torridge
The River Torridge is a river in Devon in England; it rises near Meddon. The river describes a long loop through Devon farming country where its tributaries the Lew and Okement join before meeting the Taw at Appledore and flowing into the Bristol Channel. The river is spate dependent and often flows between wooded banks which can be steep. The Torridge local government district is named after the river. It was the home of Tarka the Otter in Henry Williamson's book. Route The river rises close to the border with Cornwall (north of the source of the River Tamar). Its two primary sources are Seckington Water, which rises near Baxworthy Cross, and Clifford Water, the longer of the two, which rises alongside the A39 at Higher Clovelly. Victoria Park, Bideford
Victoria Park is an urban park in Bideford, Devon, England. The park opened in 1912 to celebrate the reign of Queen Victoria, the gates erected for the opening are listed with Historic England. There is a bandstand surrounded by nine cannons and facilities including rugby and cricket. History The park opened in 1912 to celebrate Queen Victoria's reign. In 1944 an oak tree was planted to celebrate the good relations between the people of Bideford and US Army personnel who were stationed in the town between 1940 and 1944. Rose beds were dedicated to Princess Diana after her burial and in 2000 a Millennium Time Capsule was put in the ground near the entrance. St Austell RFC is a Cornish rugby union club based in the town of St Austell and was founded in 1963. The club run three senior men's teams as well as ladies side, a colts and multiple junior/mini sides. History Early history St Austell RFC was formed on 31 July 1963 by Wilf Vernalls and Des Robins, with home games being played at Cyprus Avenue in Par Moor. There had been a previous rugby club in St Austell called the Hornets who had formed in 1933, but during the 1954–55 season this club relocated to Newquay, becoming known as the Newquay Hornets. Okehampton RFC is an English rugby union club, formed in 1884 and based in Okehampton, Devon. The club has three senior men's teams, a colts team and multiple junior teams (u-7 to u-16). Nicknamed the 'Okes' the club's colours are maroon and gold and they play home games at the Showground. Devon RFU Intermediate Cup
The Devon Intermediate Cup is an annual rugby union knock-out club competition organized by the Devon Rugby Football Union. It was first introduced during the 2009-10 season with Okehampton being the inaugural winners. The competition was briefly discontinued at the end of the 2015-16 season due to a perceived lack of interest from clubs with the 2014 final being cancelled and the 2016 winners, Kingsbridge, only playing one game (the final) due to teams being unable/or unwilling to fulfil fixtures. It was reinstated once more for the 2017-18 season. The Intermediate Cup is currently the secondary cup competition in the county behind the Devon Senior Cup but ahead of the Devon Junior Cup, for club sides based in Devon that play in tier 7 ( Tribute Western Counties West) of the English rugby union league system.
