Elizabeth Biddulph, Baroness Biddulph
Elizabeth Philippa Biddulph, Baroness Biddulph (born Lady Elizabeth Yorke, later Lady Elizabeth Adeane; 15 November 1834 – January 1916) was an English humanitarian and temperance leader. She published a biography of her father, Charles Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, and was appointed a Woman of the Bedchamber by Queen Victoria. Early life Lady Elizabeth ( nickname, "Lady Libbet") Philippa Yorke was born in England, 15 November 1834. She was a daughter and eldest child of the Charles Yorke, 4th Earl of Hardwicke, and Susan, sixth daughter of Thomas Liddell, 1st Baron Ravensworth. Howard Biddulph
Howard Lowell Biddulph (28 March 1935 – 23 May 2022) born in Rexburg, Idaho, was a political scientist whose work focused on the government of the Soviet Union. At various times, he was a faculty member at Brigham Young University (BYU), University of Victoria, and Rutgers University. As a young man Biddulph served as a Mormon missionary in the Canadian mission, based in Toronto and covering eastern Canada from 1955 to 1957. He earned his bachelor's degree at BYU and received his master's degree and Ph.D. from Indiana University, where he wrote his dissertation on "Karl Marx's Early Thought in the Soviet Union". Biddulph began his academic career as a professor at Rutgers University. He was chair of the political science department at the University of Victoria. John Biddulph
Colonel John Biddulph (25 July 1840 – 24 December 1921) was a British soldier, author and naturalist who served in the government of British India. Biddulph was born in 1840, and was the third son of Robert Biddulph. He was educated at Westminster School, and at the age of 18 joined the 19th Lancers and proceeded to India where he served in Awadh during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Afterwards, he joined the political department of the government of British India. Between 1873 and 1874 he accompanied Thomas Douglas Forsyth, Thomas E. Gordon, Henry Walter Bellew, Ferdinand Stoliczka, Henry Trotter, and R. A. Champman on the Second Yarkand Mission – an expedition across the Himalayas to Chinese Turkestan.1917. John Burnet Biddulph
John Burnet Biddulph (10 December 1796 Wigginton, Staffordshire – 3 March 1837 Graaff-Reinet) was a South African explorer and trader who arrived with the 1820 Settlers. Midshipman John Biddulph joined Lieutenant John Bailie's party aboard the convict transport ''Chapman'' under Captain John Milbank and the ship sailed from Gravesend, Kent on 3 December 1819. Also on board were his father Simon Biddulph (17 May 1761 Tamworth, Staffordshire – 5 January 1842 Bathurst, Eastern Cape), his mother Ann Burnet (August 1765 – 10 February 1844), and his siblings Louisa (24), William (14) and Frances (12). Kenneth David Biddulph (29 May 1932 – 7 January 2003) played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club, Somerset between 1955 and 1961, and later appeared in List A cricket matches while playing Minor Counties cricket for Durham County Cricket Club, Durham between 1962 and 1972. He was born in Chingford, Essex and died at his home in Amberley, Gloucestershire. Ken Biddulph was a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a tail-end right-handed batsman. Lynne E. A. Biddulph (born 1968 or 1969) is an English long-distance cyclist who has broken three endurance cycling records. Records In 2000, she (as L.E.A. Taylor) and Andy Wilkinson rode a tandem bicycle from Land's End to John o' Groats (LEJOG) in 2 days, 3 hours, 19 minutes and 23 seconds, which is still the record time for a mixed tandem. She broke the LEJOG record for a female solo cyclist in 2000 and again in 2002 with a time of 2 days, 4 hours, 45 minutes, 11 seconds the latter record being unbroken for 19 years until Christina Mackenzie completed it in July 2021 in 2 days, 3 hours, 5 minutes and 27 seconds. General Sir Michael Anthony Shrapnel Biddulph (30 July 1823 – 23 July 1904) was a British Army officer who became Black Rod, a parliamentary official. Military career Educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Biddulph was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1843. Sir Michael Biddulph, 2nd Baronet (c. 1652 – 20 April 1718), of Elmshurst, Staffordshire and Westcombe, Kent, was an English Whig politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1679 and 1710. Early life Biddulph was the son of Sir Theophilus Biddulph, 1st Baronet and Susanna Highlord, Michael Biddulph. He was educated at St Paul's School and Christ's College, Cambridge. On 31 December 1673, he married Henrietta Maria Witley, daughter of Colonel Richard Witley, in Westminster Abbey in London. He succeeded to his father's baronetcy in April 1683. General Sir Robert Biddulph, (26 August 1835 – 18 November 1918) was a senior British Army officer. He served as Quartermaster-General to the Forces in 1893, and was then Governor of Gibraltar until 1900. Military career Educated at Twyford School and the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, Biddulph was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1853. He served in the Crimean War and was present at the Siege of Sevastopol in 1854. He then served in the Indian Mutiny, and was Brigade Major during the Siege of Lucknow in 1857. Robert Biddulph (3 March 1801 – 28 February 1864) was a British Whig Member of Parliament. Family Biddulph was the son of John Biddulph, of Ledbury, Herefordshire, and his wife Augusta (née Roberts).
