Bid Time Return
''Bid Time Return'' is a 1975 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson. It concerns a man from the 1970s who travels back in time to court a 19th-century stage actress whose photograph has captivated him. In 1980, it was made into the classic sci-fi film '' Somewhere in Time'', the title of which was used for subsequent editions of the book. Matheson has stated, "''Somewhere in Time'' is the story of a love which transcends time, '' What Dreams May Come'' is the story of a love which transcends death.... I feel that they represent the best writing I have done in the novel form." Richard Burton Matheson (February 20, 1926 – June 23, 2013) was an American author and screenwriter, primarily in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres. He is best known as the author of '' I Am Legend'', a 1954 science fiction horror novel that has been adapted for the screen three times. Matheson himself was co-writer of the first film version, '' The Last Man on Earth'', starring Vincent Price, which was released in 1964. The other two adaptations were ''The Omega Man,'' starring Charlton Heston, and '' I Am Legend'' with Will Smith. ''Time and Again'' is a 1970 illustrated novel by American writer Jack Finney. The many illustrations in the book are real, though, as explained in an endnote, not all are from 1882, the year in which the main action of the book takes place. A sequel, '' From Time to Time'' (1995), was published during the final year of the author's life. The book left room for a third novel, apparently never written.
