Bicentennial Park (Mexico City)
Bicentennial Park ( es, Parque Bicentenario) is a park in Mexico City. It is located in the western part of the city, on the boundary of Azcapotzalco and Miguel Hidalgo, Mexico City, Miguel Hidalgo. It was built as part of the Celebration of Mexican political anniversaries in 2010, Celebration of the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico and inaugurated by then President of Mexico, President Felipe Calderón on November 7, 2010. This park is ten times larger than the Zócalo, Plaza de la Constitución in downtown Mexico City and the second largest "lung" in the city. Mexico City Metro
The Mexico City Metro ( es, Metro de la Ciudad de México) is a rapid transit system that serves the metropolitan area of Mexico City, including some municipalities in Mexico State. Operated by the Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC), it is the second largest metro system in North America after the New York City Subway. In 2019, the system served 1.655 billion passengers, the tenth highest ridership in the world. Refinería () is a station along Line 7 of the metro of Mexico City. The station is located close to the Pemex 18 de marzo refinery in the ''Colonia Ángel Zimbrón'' neighborhood of the Azcapotzalco borough northwest of the city center, between the stations of Camarones and Tacuba. Axolotl
The axolotl (; from nci, āxōlōtl ), ''Ambystoma mexicanum'', is a paedomorphic salamander closely related to the tiger salamander. Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of taking to the land, adults remain aquatic and gilled. The species was originally found in several lakes underlying what is now Mexico City, such as Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco. These lakes were drained by Spanish settlers after the conquest of the Aztec Empire, leading to the destruction of much of the axolotl’s natural habitat. Chinampa ( nah, chināmitl ) is a technique used in Mesoamerican agriculture which relies on small, rectangular areas of fertile arable land to grow crops on the shallow lake beds in the Valley of Mexico. They are built up on wetlands of a lake or freshwater swamp for agricultural purposes, and their proportions ensure optimal moisture retention. The United Nations designated it a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System in 2018. The Aztecs created the very first Chinampa. Although different technologies existed during the Post-classic and Colonial periods in the basin, chinampas have raised many questions on agricultural production and political development. Xochimilco Ecological Park And Plant Market
Xochimilco Ecological Park and Plant Market is a natural reserve or park, with a plant market, the largest in Latin America. The park and market are located in the southern Mexico City borough of Xochimilco, about 23 km south of the historic center of the city. The park was designed by Mario Schjetnan. The park was inaugurated in 1993, on chinampas (artificial lake islands) which had been previously declared as part of a World Heritage Site. However, the area's ecology was badly degraded, and the park was established in order to revitalize and preserve the ecosystem. Success has been mixed. While much of the wetlands have been recharged, pollution and illegal settlements in the area remain as threats.
