Biblioteca Benjamín Franklin
The Biblioteca Benjamín Franklin is the Official Information Center of the United States Embassy in Mexico. The library provides the usual services expected of libraries such as lending material, providing reference and research assistance, storytimes, and conversation clubs. The library was named after Franklin to commemorate his statesmanship, humanitarianism, and friendship with the intention of fostering collaboration and understanding between the two countries. History The Biblioteca Benjamín Franklin was built with an $80,000 grant from the American Library Association and was dedicated on April 13, 1942 and was located at Av. Reforma # 34. Colonia Juárez, Mexico City
Colonia Juárez is one of the better–known neighborhoods or colonias in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. The neighborhood is shaped like a long triangle with the boundaries: Paseo de la Reforma on the north, Avenida Chapultepec on the south, and Eje 1 Poniente (Avenida Bucareli) on the east. It is located between the historic center of Mexico City and the Chapultepec Park area, just south of the Paseo de la Reforma, which is one of Mexico's main commercial districts and its financial center. Benjamin Franklin ( April 17, 1790) was an American polymath who was active as a writer, scientist, inventor, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and political philosopher. The American Library Association (ALA) is a nonprofit organization based in the United States that promotes libraries and library education internationally. It is the oldest and largest library association in the world, with 49,727 members as of 2021. Manuel Ávila Camacho
Manuel Ávila Camacho (; 24 April 1897 – 13 October 1955) was a Mexican politician and military leader who served as the President of Mexico from 1940 to 1946. Despite participating in the Mexican Revolution and achieving a high rank, he came to the presidency of Mexico because of his direct connection to General Lázaro Cárdenas and served him as a right-hand man as his Chief of his General Staff during the Mexican Revolution and afterwards. He was called affectionately by Mexicans "The Gentleman President" ("El Presidente Caballero"). As president, he pursued "national policies of unity, adjustment, and moderation."
