The 22nd Biathlon European Championships were held in Otepää, Estonia from January 28 to February 3, 2015. There were total of 15 competitions held: sprint, pursuit and individual both for Open and Junior, relay races for Open and a mixed relay for junior. Results Men's * Russian team ( Alexey Volkov, Anton Babikov, Aleksandr Pechenkin, Alexey Slepov) which finished first (1:10:50.9), later was disqualified because of an anti-doping rule violation by Aleksandr Pechenkin Alexander is a male given name. Biathlon European Championships
The Biathlon European Championships are the top-european competitions in biathlon. The first edition was held in 1994, with sprint, pursuit, individual and relay. The number of events has grown significantly over the years. Participation of non-European competitors Even though the event is called European Championships, the event is not restricted to European athletes only. The full name of the competition is Open Biathlon European Championships, meaning that biathletes from non-European countries are eligible to participate and their results being recognised. There are three instances in which non-European competitors have won medals. Lowell Bailey from the United States became the first non-European to win a medal by winning bronze in the Junior Sprint event in 2001, followed by another bronze in the Junior Pursuit. Yuliia Dzhima ( uk, Юлія Валентинівна Джима; born 19 September 1990) is a Ukrainian World Cup level biathlete. She is Olympic champion in women's relay, multiple World championships medalist. She is one of the most successful Ukrainian biathletes of 2010's. Career She took up biathlon in Kyiv, where she lives. At the beginning of her sporting career she wasn't seen as a promising rising athlete. She didn't show good results in skiing so trainers were doubtful whether she would be a good biathlete. In January 2008 she competed in her first international competition, Junior World Championships in German Ruhpolding. Next three years she was a member of Ukrainian junior team. Iryna Petrenko, née Iryna Varvynets (Ukrainian: Ірина Варвинець; born 4 July 1992, in Mokhnatyn, Chernihiv Oblast, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian Biathlon, biathlete. She is Biathlon World Championships, World Championships medalist. She participated at 2018 Winter Olympics. Weronika Nowakowska-Ziemniak
Weronika Nowakowska (born 7 July 1986) is a Polish biathlete. Career Nowakowska competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics for Poland. Her best performance was 5th in the individual, missing only one shot. Had she shot clear, her time would have placed her 2nd. She also finished 21st in the mass start, 36th in the sprint, 28th in the pursuit and 12th as part of the relay team. As of February 2013, her best performance at the Biathlon World Championships, is 6th, as part of the 2009 Polish women's relay team. Her best individual performance is 9th, in the 2012 mass start.
