Biathlon At The 2006 Winter Olympics – Women's Sprint
The Women's 7.5 kilometre sprint biathlon competition at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy was held on 16 February, at Cesana San Sicario. Competitors raced over three loops of a 2.5 kilometre skiing course, shooting ten times, five prone and five standing. Each miss required a competitor to ski a 150-metre penalty loop. Uschi Disl was the defending World Champion at the sprint, while Kati Wilhelm Kati Wilhelm (; born 2 August 1976 in Schmalkalden) is a German former professional biathlete. Cesana San Sicario, located in Cesana, Italy is a location of a venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The biathlon facility is built for 6,500 spectators. Katrin Apel (born 4 May 1973 in Erfurt) is a retired German biathlete. , . Apel now resides in Gräfenroda, and is a member of the SV Eintracht Frankenhain club. Like most German winter sport athletes, Apel is a sport soldier, performing normal soldier duties but released for training and competitions. Apel began her career as a cross-country skier; between 1990 and 1994, her best results were third place in the junior World Championships 5 km classical in 1993, and second in the relay also in the Junior World Championships, in 1990. However, when Apel failed to qualify for the Olympics in Lillehammer in 1994, she made the decision, along with her friend and then training partner Steffi Kramer, to switch to biathlon. Linda Grubben (née Linda Tjørhom; 13 September 1979 in Stavanger) is a retired Norwegian biathlete. She won a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in the 4 × 7.5 km relay, while winning the gold medal at the Biathlon World Championships 2004 in Oberhof, 2004. Individually, she won the bronze medal at the 15 km of the Biathlon World Championship 2005 in Hochfilzen. Martina "Molly" Beck (born Martina Glagow; 21 September 1979 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany) is a retired German biathlete. She now lives in Mittenwald in Bavaria. She was most successful in the 2002–03 season, when she was the first German to win the women's overall Biathlon World Cup. She is also a three-times world champion and three-times Olympic silver medalist. She married the Austrian biathlete Günther Beck on 24 July 2008 and is now known as Martina Beck. Teja Gregorin (born 29 June 1980 in Ljubljana, SFR Yugoslavia) is a retired Slovenian biathlete. Career She was a member of the Slovenian biathlon team from 2002 to 2017, having been a cross-country skier before that. Her best result in the Biathlon World Cup is 2nd place in the 15 km Individual race in the World Championships held in Pyeongchang, Korea during the 2008–09 season. At the 2012 World Championships, Gregorin won the silver medal at the mixed relay, together with Andreja Mali, Klemen Bauer and Jakov Fak. The Slovenian biathlete was the only competitor who failed the 2017 doping retests from the 2010 Winter Olympics. In October 2017, the International Biathlon Union said that two samples given by Teja Gregorin tested positive for GHRP-2, a banned substance which stimulates the body to produce more growth hormone, in samples taken the week before competition started.
