Biathlon At The 2002 Winter Olympics – Men's Relay
The Men's 4 x 7.5 kilometre biathlon relay competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics 20 February, at Soldier Hollow. Each national team consisted of four members, with each skiing 7.5 kilometres and shooting twice, once prone and once standing. At each shooting station, a competitor has eight shots to hit five targets; however, only five bullets are loaded in a magazine at one - if additional shots are required, the spare bullets must be loaded one at a time. If after the eight shots are taken, there are still targets not yet hit, the competitor must ski a 150-metre penalty loop. Results Norway, led by triple gold medalist Ole Einar Bjørndalen, were the defending World Cup winners and led the 2001/02 World Cup. Soldier Hollow
Soldier Hollow is a cross-country ski venue located at the mouth of a Soldier Hollow (Utah), hollow of the same name about southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch Mountain State Park in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The venue was created for the 2002 Winter Olympics, and during the games it hosted the Biathlon at the 2002 Winter Olympics, biathlon, Cross-country skiing at the 2002 Winter Olympics, cross-country skiing, and the cross country skiing portion of the Nordic combined at the 2002 Winter Olympics, Nordic combined events. Vyacheslav Derkach (born 23 June 1976) is a former Ukrainian biathlete. Career Derkach competed in the 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics for Ukraine. His best performance was 7th, as part of the 2002 Ukrainian relay team. His best individual performance was 23rd, in the 2002 individual. In 1998, he finished 50th in the individual and 18th as part of the relay team. In 2002, he finished 36th in the sprint and 40th in the relay. In 2006, he finished 72nd in the sprint. In 2010, he finished 77th in the sprint and 8th as part of the relay team. His best performance at the Biathlon World Championships, is 5th, as part of the 2009 Ukrainian men's relay team. Wolfgang Perner
Wolfgang Perner (17 September 1967 – 1 October 2019) was an Austrian biathlete. The IOC banned Perner for life from competing in the Olympics as the result of a doping scandal at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Biography He was a part of the Austrian national biathlon team since 1992. He failed to qualify for the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, but his career improved afterwards, firstly with a third place in Holmenkollen, and afterwards with his first World Cup in Novosibirsk. Perner competed in four Olympic Games, and won his only medal in the sprint at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, where he took bronze, behind Ole Einar Bjørndalen and Sven Fischer. This was Austria's first Olympic medal in biathlon. Christoph Sumann
Christoph "Sumi" Sumann (19 January 1976) is a former Austrian biathlete. Life and career As was the case with many of his fellow biathletes, Sumann switched over from cross-country skiing, which he had been doing since childhood. By the mid-1990s had he entered junior ski team of Austria and later on progressed to senior level. He was a skillful sprinter at the time. Sumann began as a biathlete in 2000 and would compete in biathlon at the top level for 11 seasons. His first World Cup win came in 2002–03 season and he finished 15th in the World Cup total. In 2006–07 Biathlon World Cup Sumann won the a mass start race and wore the red bib of the leader of the mass start cup up until the last stage of the season, the fact is quite outstanding for Austrians in biathlon despite the fact that he eventually lost it to Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who thus won the mass start world cup that season. Zdeněk Vítek () (born 25 July 1977) is a Czech former biathlete. Vítek retired from the sport at the end of the 2013–14 season. In May 2014, he was named as the head coach for the Czech Republic's women biathlon team. After four years in this role, in June 2018 Vitek became head coach of the Czech men's team. Roman Dostál (; born 13 July 1970) is a former Czech biathlete. He became a Biathlon World Champion on the 20 km in 2005. The victory itself was very surprising because he has never managed to come among the top three in any World Cup competition. Dostál retired after the 2009–10 season. Pavel Aleksandrovich Rostovtsev (Russian: Павел Александрович Ростовцев; born 21 September 1971) is a Russian former biathlete. Life and career Rostovtsev lives in Krasnoyarsk. He is a three times world champion in biathlon. He has competed in the World Cup since the 1995–96 season. In 2000 he became World Champion with the Russian relay team in the World Championships in Lahti. The following year he won both the sprint and the pursuit in the World Championships in Pokljuka. In the 2001–02 season he came second in the overall World Cup standings. He hasn't won a single World Cup competition since the 2001–02 season. Sergei Tchepikov
Sergei Vladimirovich Tchepikov (russian: Серге́й Влади́мирович Че́пиков; born 30 January 1967) is a Russian politician and a former Soviet-Russian biathlete and cross-country skier who competed at six Winter Olympics, five in biathlon (1988, 1992, 1994, 2002 and 2006) and one in cross-country skiing (1998). His last Olympic performance was a silver medal in the 4 × 7.5 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Tchepikov has two World Cup titles (1989/90, 1990/91). He has had 25 podium finishes, six in first place, thirteen in second, and has come third six times. In the Olympics, Tchepikov has two gold, three silver, and one bronze medals.
