Bi Community News
''Bi Community News'' (commonly shortened to ''BCN'') is a bimonthly magazine, and the United Kingdom's only magazine serving the bisexuality, bisexual population. It is published bimonthly and includes many articles reflecting bisexual life and media representation as well as news from the bisexual community. Resulting from a workshop at the UK BiCon (UK), BiCon in 1995, it started as a zine moving to being a full-colour glossy magazine around 2010. It has been consistently published since October 1995. The current editor is Jen Yockney MBE. Previous UK bisexual journals were ''BiFrost'' (1991–1995) and ''Bi Monthly'' in the 1980s. Content Each issue of ''Bi Community News'' has a mixture of regular columns and topical or one-off articles, interviews and features. A "serialised short story", ''Fixation'', ran for two years. Bisexuality
Bisexuality is a romantic or sexual attraction or behavior toward both males and females, or to more than one gender. It may also be defined to include romantic or sexual attraction to people regardless of their sex or gender identity, which is also known as '' pansexuality.'' The term ''bisexuality'' is mainly used in the context of human attraction to denote romantic or sexual feelings toward both men and women, and the concept is one of the three main classifications of sexual orientation along with heterosexuality and homosexuality, all of which exist on the heterosexual–homosexual continuum. Bi Academic Intervention
Bi Academic Intervention was a group of bisexual academics, researchers, scholars and writers active in the UK from 1993 to 1997. The group provided a forum for discussing bisexual theory. History Bi Academic Intervention, a group of bisexual academics, researchers and writers, was formed at the 11th National Bisexual Conference held at the University of Nottingham in October 1993. The group aimed to create discussion around bisexual theory, provide visibility for bisexual researchers, and to ensure that bisexual identity was represented in academic research and discussions about sexuality. The group ran a number of one day events between 1993 and 1995 and, between 1993 and 1997, ran biannual day schools on bisexuality. Celebrate Bisexuality Day
Celebrate Bisexuality Day (also called Bisexual Pride Day, Bi Visibility Day, CBD, Bisexual Pride and Bi Visibility Day, and Bisexuality+ Day) is observed annually on September 23 to recognize and celebrate bisexual people, the bisexual community, and the history of bisexuality. History A precursor to the first official observance came when the oldest national bisexuality organization in the United States, BiNet USA, was founded in 1990. It was originally called the North American Multicultural Bisexual Network (NAMBN) and had its first meeting at the first National Bisexual Conference in America. This first conference was held in San Francisco in 1990 and sponsored by BiPOL. More than 450 people attended from 20 states and 5 countries, and the mayor of San Francisco sent a proclamation "commending the bisexual rights community for its leadership in the cause of social justice", and declaring June 23, 1990, to be Bisexual Pride Day. BiPhoria
BiPhoria is social and support group for bisexual people in Manchester, England. It is the oldest extant bisexual organisation in the UK having launched in 1994. As its central mission since then it has welcomed people who are just coming out or new to the area to have opportunities to meet and talk with other bisexuals, and those who are questioning their sexual orientation who think they may be bisexual. As the only bi-specific organisation in the North West of England for much of the time since its formation, its work has extended beyond the city of Manchester including sparking similar groups in other cities including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Liverpool. A & C Black
A & C Black is a British book publishing company, owned since 2002 by Bloomsbury Publishing. The company is noted for publishing '' Who's Who'' since 1849. It also published popular travel guides and novels. History The firm was founded in 1807 by Charles and Adam Black in Edinburgh. In 1851, the company purchased the copyrights to Sir Walter Scott's ''Waverly'' novels for £27,000. The company moved to the Soho district of London in 1889. During the years 1827–1903 the firm published the seventh, eighth and ninth editions of the ''Encyclopædia Britannica''. This was purchased from Archibald Constable after his company's failure to publish the seventh edition of the encyclopedia.
